Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

COChix not sure if you have a definite answer or not but we use a large dog kennel as well. The little buggers will fit through the holes for about the first 2 weeks depending on breed. We are currently using an old baby pack and play to see how it works. So far is working pretty good. The only problem i forsee is escaping tiny dinosaurs but we will see. We are using a heat lamp right now but with our next batch we are going to use the mhp. Can't wait

Kids are home safe. I may sleep tonight.
so glad they made it safe and sound... now get some sleep

Chick suicide method #106 knock over feeder and climb inside.

I did end up sewing a fitted pillowcase type cover to go over my whole MHP. It's much better now and I won't worry about them so much while I'm away this weekend and DH is on chick duty.
LOL....BTDT!! Gotta screw that jar to a piece of wood(either heavy or wide) so it can't be knocked over.

Here are my little gals sitting on top of the brooder. At ten days old they hardly use it anymore except at night and then they sleep right at the opening. The setting is already turned down to 2 and they seem just fine.

Everyone is still alive this morning :) First night out in the coop was a success! Now to try and assess whether I have the HP on the right setting out there??

Just observe them thru out the day, if you can-only downside to coop brooding, they'll show you if they are not comfortable.
