Thanks so much for posting this! We have just built a temporary hoop coop for our young guinea keets and will now be building our Big Coop for the guineas-- they'll be free-ranging but inside the coop at night for safety. We found another hoop coop plan here on BYC called "Permanent Hoop Coop" that we've been engaging with, but we are planning to modify it. I appreciate your thoughts and designs.

What we are planning to do is make a regular perimeter out of cattle panel in the traditional vertical-fence position, then figure out how to attach a curved quonset-hut of cattle panels on top of that so that the resulting building has straight sides with a higher, curved roof. The purpose being the ability to have a higher ceiling. If you have any thoughts about how to make that attachment, I would be grateful to hear them.

I know this is completely off topic so maybe we could move this conversation to an appropriate venue?

Thank you for any info!

Probably good idea to start a thread with your concept, I would love to participate......but......
the curve of the panels require a sturdy frame to hold panel ends, unless you actually are able to have them bent/formed into a self standing 'hoop'.

I need advice about transitioning from MHP. I have it with my 25 guinea keets (2 weeks old) and we just transitioned them to a larger, temporary space while we finish their big, permanent coop. We moved the whole brooder inside the new space with its door propped open.. My question is that, at night they are still sleeping under MHP, even though they don't all fit anymore. So I need to come up with something that will meet their need for being able to huddle together in a cavelike space. (Within a couple-few days I will remove the brooder but still need to provide the cavelike space once we remove it.)

Thoughts?

Also, does anyone know how Blooie is doing? To my knowledge we haven't heard from her since the report that her dear granddaughter was doing well immediate post-surgery.

@Blooie
put blocks under several MHP long ways end to end so there is less chance of getting trapped in the middle
... my 2 BBB Turkeys somehow managed to fit under one at 6wks and when they stood up MHP rose with them.

Is the heat off?
I had this same issue, heat was off but they were still under there to lounge and sleep, tried making them a huddle box but they were having none on it, even after I removed the MHP......they huddled on the ground, NP.

Quote: Oh yes, the heat has been off for a week, it's very warm here. Yes, they still need the comfort and safety. So I will follow the suggestion to raise it on blocks (have lots of bricks) and that way if some of them spill out they can all still be in physical contact. It's that thing of, some of the littles are more mature than others, some of them really still need the comfort, and they all want to be together so they keep huddling.

It was more puzzling than anything as my runs are pretty tight. It was hot as h3ll yesterday, so I was kind of looking for a corpse. Tho they are molting so lots of feathers around, which certainly gave me pause. SHM and laughed when I found her.....how she pulled that off, I don't know, will be interesting to see where she roosts tonite. Yep, Woody the Welsummer........
I thought our buff was a big boy.....handsome Woody!

Oh, they can still huddle on the floor, the MHP is just a habit, they'll be fine without it, but probably increase the roostime twittering for a couple days.
