Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Terry I had a feeling you were going to expand faster than originally thought. What a wonderful sight so see your lovely ladies smiling though. A good man will do anything for the ladies of his life. Reminds me of my own husband.
OrganicFarmWife. From what I've read you've said the tub is a large one. Are those quart feeder/waters? I'm wondering almost if previous responders are misunderstanding the size of the brooder due to the picture? Just a thought. It seems like too little "extra" space to me. But that's me and I've only have a set of five, theres a big difference.

Yes a quail waterer and quart feeder. I kept half their number for 2 weeks in it happily. I just moved them out onto the floor at 3 weeks and now they are happily eating grass outside in a pen all day.
I discussed it with the DH and I think we will halve them in two seperate brooders. Just so I do not have to worry.

Technically it's really not chicken math...yet. We had originally planned on 12 and that is what we will end up with to start. 10 at our house and 2 at Mom's. I'm sure we will add some. I built the coop/run for 16.

I'm no good at disappointing Cheryl or my Mom. To be honest, they both have put up with a lot of "stuff" from me over the years. If they want chickens then they shall have chickens.

Edit: We will be picking up Mom's 2 1/2 week old Blue Laced Red Wyandottes on Saturday.

It's all so quiet here. Not a peep. The heating pad is amazing. I'm going to try sending pics once my iPhone cooperates.
Sorry I don't join the conversation. There are so many posts it's hard to follow. But I hope all is well w everyone.

Oh, I so know what you're saying! Here it's a 50 mile drive one way to the nearest Walmart. Big shopping is done 100 miles away in Billings. <sigh>
And to think my roommates think were wa-ay out in the boonies because it's a whopping 35 miles to Columbia (city folk, phsth)!

My chicks have spent their first day in the garage. The high today was 52. They seemed great. No huddling or anything. It's supposed to get down to 34 tonight but I know they'll do great.
