man barged into house

I would have just shut the door in his face... less drama.

So glad you were able to get family to you to help out. I have never had anyone push into the home like that. I can not imagine a stranger wanting to vaccum my bed. A gun or mace handy, but as you mentioned to often we are just dumbfouned into inaction.

My wife had the exact same thing happen here one night about 8:00pm. way past dark and the outside lights were all off. two people in a car came to try and sell her a vacuum. they handed her a free gift and tried to invite themselves in. she is a fire plug but feisty. she wouldn't even let them get a toe in the door. I turned up behind her a few seconds later and they split after giving her a card. she even handed them their free gift back.

on a side note I have a neighbor two door west who is about 89 and sells eggs. he got ripped off when a lady came to the house to get eggs one evening. she bought eggs and went to leave and claimed her car wouldn't start and could she get a jump? while the old guy turned his truck around and gave her a jump someone was in his house cleaning him out. they took guns and tools and his lock box with his deeds in it.
some folks are just terrible in this day and age. we've had some real winners in our neighborhood as of late. I sure hope it lets up.

Normally I am a real crusty old broad, but I don't know if the pain pill made me a bit slow witted and the fact I had the back door unlocked because I was going out to do chores. You just expect them to believe you when you tell them you are not interested in whatever they have to sell. They really threw me off with the van leaving the guy standing in my back porch. We are going today to get new locks for the doors and I am starting the search for a LARGE dog.........

A simple thing I do is to keep the outer door locked as well as the inner door. We have a lot of home invasions here. One that occurred at the other end of my block involved 3 teenagers with a gun who knocked on a door in the middle of the day. When the home owner answered by opening the outer door they grabbed it and pushed their way into the house. There was a gunfight between the home owner and the 3 kids. Nobody died which is a good thing but it all could have been prevented by simply locking the outer door. We fitted slide bolts on the outer door which slide into a hole we drilled in the jam. Cost us 10 bucks to do 4 doors. When somebody comes to the door I open the inner door knowing that the outer door is secure and that they cant open it to push past me. Even though I have boxers now i found that the best dog to keep people away is a cropped ear doberman. No matter how sweet and docile the dog is the mere appearance of that dobie head is enough to keep people away. I have had people cross the street to avid contact with my dobies and when sales people rang my bell and I answered the door with my hand on the dobermans collar they instinctively back up a few feet. I really like that LOL

bravo breezy! I have four Dobermans...no one comes through the gate, several yards from the front door, without an invite or an escort...my youngest girl is the more alert and protective and she knows how to open the front door and let everyone out when she hears something...or sees something...I feel sorry for anyone who ventures in uninvited...and then there is the fact that all the dogs really have to do is bark and point to let me know where to shoot...

lots of people in my family are officers, and im good friends with some other officers. I know atleast a handful of them would beat them 2 idiots senseless.

I'd fly under the radar, be careful and watch to see if the vehicle is around her house or your road and report it to the local police department

My two choices for guard dogs would be : doberman, very smart..don't shed alot..they don't play alot they are serious and learn fast and wouldn't mess with chickens and then a german shepard, they are also great dogs.. but i would get a doberman and dock its ears and tail and put a nice shiny choke chain on it. Then I would buy alot of guns...you can never have enough! tarus/Rossi put out the circuit judge, its a long gun with a revolver on it. It shoots 410's which you can get a ammo load that has these metal disks in it that would leave a huge hole in someone and then it uses colt .45 ammo! plus its a beautiful gun..you can get it in black and stainless steel...thats the one on my wish list. I live here in hillbilly land and you don't go to peoples houses here in the dark..someone might break their neck coming down where i am and save me some ammo!
