man barged into house

The deputy said to watch out particularly for one trying to divert your attention while the other one would be looking around for things to steal. The one did pull the sweeper cord down the hallway by my bedroom to straighten the cord while the slickster tried to browbeat me into believing their sales pitch. I told the deputy I have wrapped up many extension cords and have never had to straighten it clear out in order to wrap it up..... The deputy told me that I need to keep the house locked even when I am out to the barns doing chores and to keep my cell phone with me and to call 911 and keep the line open if anyone like this comes around again. He said they will be glad to escort them off the farm!!! I sure appreciate our deputies!!!!

This is Balonga Salami.

YOu shouldn't have to put up a sign to keep them from entering your house.
I would have told him since his "boss" had dropped him off then he needed to start walking. Too Bad, so sad. I'm so glad I have 5 dogs that scare people away even if they aren't really big (well one is) Oh and guns.

I'm so sorry this happened to you

WOW, I just skimmed/read this thread, read your original post...

My mom (62) had a Kirby salesman cold-call her door last summer. It was a twenty something young guy that was dropped off by his "woman driver"... this was in Michigan, and I don't know how the economy is elsewhere, but the type of young guys that are typically doing the Kirby sales jobs don't have a legal driver's license. Neither of us thought anything of it, and my Mom just let him vacuum her floors for free and then gave him a sales pitch for her early 70's model Kirby that still works the same as the day it was invented.

We honestly just figured that the guy was having some chic drive him around to his gigs....She felt bad for the kid having to sit and wait for his crap ride to show back up!!!

There are certainly bad people out there to be cautious of, but there are a TON (or at least where we are) of people just TRYING HARD to do something legit! This sounds like a new sales strategy that "KIRBY CO." has enforced for their sales people to do!!! That is more disturbing! I would find out if this is a sales strategy directly from the company...MANY companies will force their workers to use tactics like this, and if you don't you loose your job and sometimes loose the wages you should have been earning in expenses. It sounds like Kirby is not only preying on its customers, but its salespeople also! That is just bad business from the company!

Thank You for posting your experience!! I am going to tell my mother (who has always loved Kirby) and I am going to spread the knowledge about how the company is scheming to exploit their customers and employees!

We had just put our 15 year old watch dog to sleep last week because his backend went completely out on him. I have been half-heartedly looking for a Guardian dog - I will now be looking very seriously for a large dog......

I don't know how you feel about guns but you may look into getting one with the training to use it being alone alot. I had a guy flag me down once and he was very aggressive at my window and wanted me to help him get his car unstuck, I told him just a minute I do not want to leave my pistol in the truck, his whole attitude changed and he said nevermind. My point is a gun laying in reach is usually enough to deter pushy people and keep you safe until the law arrives.

I feel kind of stupid for not kicking the kid out on his fanny. Even worse, I now feel more than a little sick to my stomach and I am usually not finicky or faint-hearted and at work I am known for being a Pit-bull........ It is very unsettling that people would come out after dark the week before Christmas and be jerks like this...

I pity the fool that attempts that at our house.

He'd be up against a wall with a gun shoved into his spine while the cops were called. I've heard WAY too many stories like this that ended badly.

I agree - call the authorities. I also agree - getting a gun would be a VERY good idea. That sounds like a very bad situation, and you don't want to be unarmed if somebody attempts a break-in. Even supposing the guy was "just" a salesman, he should respect your property and privacy rights. I believe actions like his are known as trespassing, if not quite breaking and entering. A 20-gauge pump shotgun is perfectly suffecient as a... deterrent.
