Maran Assortment coming soon...Newbie needs help

mattsinger: I couldn't tell you for sure, but I've been reading on the incubating thread, that you should let them sit for 12-24 hours (in a basement for example cause it's cool and moist) fat end up in a egg carton with the bottoms of the carton cut out. Then when you're ready to set them in incubator, leave them at room temp for several hours and keep them in the carton in incubator fat side up, no turning for a few days if air cells detached. Maybe you've already put them in your incubator. I don't even have my shipped eggs yet, so you're the expert!
LOL....I'm no expert....just a newbie here. Yes, Ive read the same, and I have them all sitting in a egg carton with the bottoms cut out....my plan is to put them in the bator tonight....with the auto-turner turned off for a couple days....then get things moving. Sure hope this works..

mattsinger: I hope it works too! I was sure we were all reading the same posts but I thought I'd mention the info I read just in case! Did you ask anyone what to do with an air cell on the wrong end?

Ive asked it in a couple spots...havent seen an answer yet..
I'm thinking tonight, I'll look before I set it. and the end that has the air...I think I am going to put up. Unless someone has a reason not to

Oh gosh no! You're fine!!! I'm generally lucky if I even get an answer most posts, lol. I'm learning a lot actually. My eggs are too dark to really see anything with candeling so I just stuck them all pointy side down in my makeshift egg turner (the bottom of a egg carton) and I'm turning them 3 times a day and hoping for the best. I hope I'm doing it right!

TTH <<<<Temps ,Turn & Humidity...keep constant as possible.... I got mine tracked out of Anchorage,,Should be in Fairbanks this afternoon,,Will pickup @ Airportway Post office....I have them hold all my eggs there,,,,I know my mail is out of the Steese,,Yet the truck that delivers from Airport main is not heated..Things you got to think of.....This might be my last incubation for the season..HAHA I say might..Ebay eggs are addictive...Its been running strait since mid feb.....

Thanks! I'm trying to make sure they get turned at the same time everyday. I'm really forgetful since having kids though so I've got alarms and notes everywhere trying to remember! I'm having the hardest time with my temp. It will stay good at 99.5 for a few readings, then I'll find it at 100 or 98 despite humidity staying right. Is that uncommon?

I had to share the news with you that my shipment of eggs came today, a day early. Do I sound excited? I am not. Our postal service Canada Post left them in my p.o. box all day. It was -2 celsius maybe even a bit colder. What moron would put something that says the word LIVE on evey surface of the box in some cold post office box to sit there in freezing weather for God knows how long? I had to rant as I am just furious, I was so excited, I know you all understand, I am sure you felt the same way.

That's ridiculous! I hate relying on shippers and the postal service. If I order eggs offline again I'm for sure speaking to someone at the post office and my carrier so they know. We had a late winter and we were dropping to as cold as -10*F and my eggs would have been completely frozen. I hope yours weren't too damaged!
