Its not a cuckoo maran but there is a breed called the black marans. But the only way to truely know if it is a maran is when they start laying they have a rich dark brown eggs. But if it isn't I would assume its a Black Australorp.

Well, I've heard of that but in my opinion its bogus.
In my opinion they're overmelanized black coppers.
In my opinion..... this is a boy and he'll never lay eggs so we'll never know.
