Sounds like New Hampshire reds maybe. Don

No. I bought these in Marans France. I thought they were calling them brown red. I recall them being featured in Marans book published in France..

First, realize that the name for a variety, as well as the standard, vary from one country to another. That said, it sounds like a red or black tailed red or red columbian. A lighter red LIKE a New Hampshire, and NOT extremely dark like a Rhode Island Red.

Just to note the French wording of:

Black Copper or Copper Balck = Cuivre Noir

Brown-Red = Brun-Rouge

I still think it's the difference in the way the birds were first seen/named in France, when referring to the Game Fowl coloring, for lack of better wording, and it stuck. In my opinion, Black Copper and Brown-Red are one and the same. No expert here for sure, but it makes sense when looking at pics? May also be the way the French are describing the difference in hackle/saddle color: ie: copper vs. mahogany and with or without breast flames? Has anyone contacted the French Marans Club to ask them, who actually speak Francaise??
