We have been lucky with mostly snow this winter, the freezing rain messes up power lines and trees so we are happy when we don't have to deal much with that! It just means we are getting closer to spring!!!

I seem to live in the "ice belt" of MO. We had about 3" of ice before we got our snow. When it finally warmed up the second day, I went out on my new deck that overlooks the chicken run, and there was now 6" of ice on it! I spent a good hour with a shovel chipping it all off. The builders came the next day, and I told them that. The one said, "oh, you didn't have to do that. That porch is built to withstand at least four times that much weight." I told him, "didn't do it for the porch. I wanted to be able to sit our here with my glass of wine, and watch my chickens!" They both chimed in, "we should've known!"

Yup! The wind is supposed to kick up though, so that will bring in rain tonight. Hope we don't get thunder storms, I HATE LIGHTNING!!! And tornados! I'm in South-Central MO.

I'm there with ya on the the lightning and tornadoes...I always get on edge during tornado season. Do you ever make it to the sedalia show? I've never been, its always been on a weekend when I have something already goin....or do you ever make it over to Kansas to the HOAGBA club exotic auctions? The have some mighty interesting things there sometimes and tons and tons of poultry. I like going for the people I meet down there...and the occasional goodies that are just too good to pass up.

I'm kind of limited in my driving these days due to my arthritis. I may make the trip, but once I get there, I won't be able to walk too much

. I had thought about going to the Sedalia show this year. Is that an APA show?? I haven't been up there in years, and the last time I went it was miserabley hot! Seems like it was about a three hour drive for me, one way too.

Comfrey is a great plant also called knit-bone, good as a poultice for bad bruises. It is also good to put the leaves on the compost to add heat and nitrogen.

By the way April, the chicks are doing well and getting big! I moved them out to the brooder in the barn today.

That's still a bit of a drive indeed..especially if it limits mobility when you get to the show... The Sedalia show is an APA show, at one time when I was younger my dad and uncle said it was a really big show, so I've always wanted to go. I'm still hoping to make it down there sometime. The shows out here in the midwest are pretty spread out. I luck out that one of them is about a 10 minute drive from my place in the fall and the one this spring put on by the club I belong to is a bit over an hour an hour away by country roads.
I thought at one time there was a show down there in Springfield too...not 100% sure, but thought so.

If you find out anything about the show in Springfield, could you please PM me with the info? That would be a bunch closer! Springfield is only about 120 miles from me. There's also the Big Bird Classic, which is in Arkansas, I believe, but can't remember the name of the town. Not too many shows out here that I am aware of, except the fairs, and I won't bother with them.

I can do that no problem! I'll ask around to a couple of people that travel to a lot of the shows and see what they say.

Oh, and I was gonna say..there is the Heartland Classic in Cape Girardeau too. That is on March 19th. I can get you a number to call if that was reasonably close to you. Just let me know

I'd love to go to that one too, but I'll be in Gardner at the first HOAGBA sale of the year. Love that spring sale, so many great people.

I've done the horse shows, dog shows, goat and sheep shows, but have never been to a chicken show! I still can't imagine washing a chicken!
