Marans eggs after judging: There were some pretty ones there!

I am just gonna upload photos of the birds no certain order of variety (cuz I'm not that organized LOL). If anyone wants to see a closer photo of a cetain bird or the paper with the judging comments etc. just let me know, I might be able to blow it up and crop it etc to get a better view.

**Also, I am posting the good and the not so perfect so maybe we can all learn from them. There are some pics here of birds that were DQ'd for side sprigs, and white earlobes etc. This was a major Marans learning experience for me so I hope it will help others as well.

#4 This bird was listed as just 'Splash Marans' I think maybe it was a Wheaten Splash? Anyone know for sure? It was dq'd for side sprig but I still am curious.

flgardengirl,

Thanks so much for posting these! I would have loved to have been there and seen it all for myself, but this is awesome.

Was it an exciting environment to be in? I would think that it would be wonderful to meet with other Marans breeders going for SOP, no?

It was really neat to see so many Marans in one place! After all the people you normally meet who say, "What's a Marans"? LOL!! I only drove up for a few hours on Saturday and drove back in the late afternoon due to my dh's working hours and all. It was about a 6 hour drive each way.
I had no birds or eggs in the show but I really wanted to see what the Marans all looked like in person because normally, you don't see that many Marans in the shows. Hopefully after they qualify there will be more. Glad you are enjoying the pics

Fantastic! I did notice on the coop cards they listed "Maran" as the breed instead of Marans. I bet it really was a sight to see. I grew up showing poultry from as young as I can remember and after 10 years of living in a big city, I'm back out in the country and want to get back to showing. Its so encouraging to see the breed I've fallen in love with have such a strong representation and was received so well. I found myself checking here and the yahoo group often to see if there were updates from the show.
In your opinion, on the birchens, were they smaller than the other color varieties? I've found that to be the case with quite a few people's birchens, including mine. I'm working on building up their size slowly but surely, but was just curious what you saw.
And that first pic you posted of what I think you said was a White red...or Red white...I had no idea they had a Red Pyle type equivalent in Marans.
Thanks again for all your effort in making it to the show and letting us have a sneak peek into how it was.

Awesome pics, thanks!!!

On the downside, you would think the show secretary or whoever fills out the cage cards would get the breed name correct???
These are MARANS, not Maran. Hope the APA makes note of that??

These were all listed as Cuckoo and none as Golden Cuckoo even though it seemed like one of them looked like it had some gold in it. I sure wish I could see the cukoo that laid those pretty dark eggs (back in the egg pics I posted awhile back...I still think those were so pretty!)
