Haha...too funny! Its good he enjoys them, even if he isn't willing to admit he loves them...yet

I might have missed it, but what's the progress on your hatch now? I told a friend today that I feel weird that I don't have a hatch going this week. I am thinking I should get notice of chicks hatching for me tho tomorrow...and should be shipped out Wed I'd guess! I'm getting more excited all the time. I've got the brooder all set up for them and ready to go.

I have 6 in the brooder and then the one I put back in the incubator. Don't want to put it with the rest of them until it's looking a little better. I'm scared the others will pick on it.

Woohoo! on your new chicks coming soon.

Are they Marans?

thats great you have 6 chickers! Any sign of other pips or anything from the other eggs?
My chicks are going to be that assorted batch of Wyandotte chicks from Paul's Poultry. I will be picking up some cuckoo Marans hens over the weekend that my original cuckoos came from. I'm excited for them!

No pips on any of my other eggs yet, but after witnessing what happened with Debbie's bunch, I'm going to leave them and see what happens.

My head cuckoo roo has developed the same goldness. I have been told it could be due to the sun or corn? Is that true?

Interesting enough, I have 20 week cockerel from my head roo, and his coloring shows no gold. The cockerel has very white and black barring. I am assuming if my goal is a dark cuckoo marans (not a gold or silver), I should select for breeding purposes, those without gold undertones or leakage? I don't know if I worded this all correctly, hopefully you all can get the drift of what I am asking...

They should stay "Silver" not "brassy" mine did a partial molt and has lost the "brassy" but he has partial white tail feathers and more than 2......but he's big almost 10LBS and not yet a year old and a gentleman to me and his ladies so he gets to stay until I have better. To me having a big correct cock with a color fault like the white tail feathers is workable I have a couple of sons who might turn out better and if they do I'll use them I have Golden Cuckoos too so if I had one that I thought had the gold I might use him with them if he was superior....color faults would just take more culling I have a Silver Cuckoo who carries Wheaten so I'm trying an experiment as he's big and came from a 8 egg wouldn't you know it just the luck....but if he doesn't work out I haven't ruined the rest of my stock. It's difficult working with Marans as you have the egg color to work with I have some nice egg color finding better stock that has better egg color isn't easy but without the dark eggs what do you have? BBQ at least they taste good.

Pinkchick, I'm sorry I haven't been present much, a lot going on in my life as well but sending positive, caring thoughts to you and your wonderful grandmother! What an experience you've had, her guidance, humor, wisdom....I never had that and have always been sad I had no grandparents.

Hey girlfriend! Thanks for the shout out!

We had a horrible wind and rain storm yesterday, knocked out power from 3 pm Sunday to 11 am today and all my turkey and Marans eggs were nearly frozen. I cracked open a several and they were NOT alive at all, almost a gel like consistency. Broke my heart. The Marans were depressing but they were not purchased ones, but my own so that wasn't as bad as losing the 6 midget white turkey eggs I had from Denny, who, bless her heart, has more I can order!

My Tibetan Mastiff girl Helena is due in 5 days and she goes for xray Tuesday. I fear there are going to be 12 or 13 puppies so need to get all my nursery supplies lined up; goats' milk, puppy vitamins etc., cuz I fear I will be supplemental feeding! I won't be online as much either since she will be whelping in my tack house and I have no internet over there.

We added a couple of feed store Wyandottes, 3 gold and 3 silver...I couldn't resist them!!

That is terrible you lost power during a hatch...its hard enough for it to happen any other time, but when hatching is an extra kind of crappy. I'm glad that you are able to get some more turkey eggs to replace the ones you lost. And new puppies coming soon?! Thats awesome!! I really hope that all goes well and you have healthy happy puppies!

haha...Yay Wyandottes! mine should be hatching tomorrow and so they should arrive here sometime wednesday or thursday...I'm so excited!

I hope the weather will calm down for your next batch of eggs you set!

Hey thanks Vicki!!

Yeah, my mind is occupied with *egg* recovery and re-start but most of all, focusing on my girl Helena! Keep that halo of white light around you and don't let the dummies getcha down!

I just had a funny thought...that's one animal I have never been around when having babies, a dog. I don't know why, but it strikes me as funny. How many pups do you think it is possible for her to have?
