Thanks Kim! It's making me wonder now if the light blue in my brooder isn't a splash?? It looks like Gnarles' baby in your pic.

There are only two possibilities there; the Bill x Bill's blue daughter chick who is on the far left, or the "Somebody cross Gnarles" chick with it's head turned away. Still waiting on the last chick to get going, looks like it may still be absorbing yolk.

Hi everyone - this is probably a big ol' dumb question, but I picked up these 2 splash marans yesterday. At 3 weeks 5 days old, I assume they are roos, but I couldn't bare to leave them because the lady had them in a closed up plastic bin inside a closed up black car when the weather was 70 and they had tipped over their water.

Is there any questions whatsoever on the gender at this point? If they are roos for sure, they have to go.

Thanks!

Wow, I have to say Marans are popular in my area. I posted three seven month hens on craigslist today and they have already been picked up. Hard to sell my lovely girls. They just did not lay dark enough eggs for me to use for breeding. I think they got a good home. Gives me hope that I will be able to sell all my extras. Love all the baby pics.

I am putting a few of my flocks eggs, (6 bcm, 6 mutt), into lockdown tonight soo..... a show of hands from all those who use an egg carton for hatching.

Do you like this method, or not?
