Its been a hectic week, and some parts of it rough...but have been getting excited about this hatch I have coming up over the weekend. I was working around the house doing some spring cleaning and had a realization hit me like a lead weight in the pit of my stomach....the power was off. So, ran to cover the incubator with blankets and called the power company. It came back on after a couple of hours. Went to work and got a call saying the power was back off again. Luckily family is in town so they covered the incubator back up....and the power is back on again tonight. I'm hoping if anything the hatch will be delayed just a little bit, and that no more power outages will happen again over this terrible wind we're having.

Lets see if I can remember how to post pics....

Splash Marans from Pinkchick. Hatched early Feb.?

Olive Egger. This is a Roo. He is really developing into a unique bird. It has a lot of exposed red flesh on the upper neck, kinda' like a Turkin. He is also getting some awesome color splotches coming in. I am thinking that Pinkchick might want him back for O.E. breeding.

A couple of Blues. A hen & a Roo. For some reason, he was limping.

These birds were the first ones I got from Pinkchick, in January.

Blue Hen. Same as in above pic. This would be "Bills' Girl" who I named "Dolly"

this may have already been covered, but i noticed that 2 of my chicks have shorter outside toes, is that ok? they are functional and not weird in any other way aside from being a wee bit shorter. Any thoughts?

Well I'll go for a Cuckoo Thread there are lots of them out there just that many are hatchery birds....I had a white Sew and Grow has her now and there are 3 people on here that I know have them so I think it might help out if not many people post it will get lost though.

It was explained to me that the gene for feather shank causes the shorter outside toes. My 2 blue chicks show this as they have a lot of feathering and the 1 back chick has less feathering so it's outer toes looks to be normal length.

Hi Jay!

Are you sure your chicks are 5-6 weeks old? The reason I ask is, their feathering seems to be lacking for that age. By 4 weeks, they should have just about all their feathering in, and yours are still showing a lot of down. Love the "stink eye" that first one is giving you!
