I'm lazy too, Walt. Comb DQs are abounding here right now. Lucky for me, I have time to hold off breeding until I can cull all of those birds out. I'm posting some pics of a dark blue roo for Pink, but in one of the pics, you will see a head of another BC roo with a full blown carnation comb!
I also have a BCM hen that has one too, that I did not notice because it flopped early on. Combs have become one of the top priorities here for right now! Type and size are still number one!
Speaking of combs! I'll have to take a picture and post of a cockerel I hatched out from Geebs. I call him Jaws because his comb was HUGE by three or four days. He looks like a shark compared to the others. He's the little stinker who's been crowing since 2-3weeks old!
Ok Pink, here are some shots of Myron taken just a while ago today. He is standing funny in the one pic, and it makes his back look dippy. It's not, that is one of his best attributes, long back, nice tail set, and you know how I feel about mahogany! Cons; too many comb points (we can deal with that!), and clean legs, although he does have some stubbles. He is really starting just now to fill out, he was very lanky for quite some time. I can also see lacing in him in the pics which I can't see with my bad naked eyes!
The last pic is of my beloved Roy. He came around to the front yard just as I was putting the camera away. He stood there in front of me like, "what?? no pics of moi??" Ok my dear, you deserve a pic too.

nice pictures! wondering if you could post a top shot of the one with the carnation comb when you have time
Hens ~ Not likely, he is rather shy. I was surprised he stood there that long to be in the pic. Picture what you see on the side of his comb, going all around the end of the blade and on the other side. If you look down at it, it looks like a little crown. CARNATION! He has a better comb than most of the Pennes I've seen pictured!

Debbi, you could start your own line of Penedesenca!
Hens ~ I used the zoom on the camera, maybe this will help?
Note, he also has the half point thingy going on here as well. A shame, he is an otherwise very nice roo in every other respect!
If you right click on the pic, and click on "save as", then name it what you want, and it will go to your photo album on your computer. There you can use your zoom feature to zoom in on it. Wish I could get better pics, sorry.
Kim-Debbi, Just trying to save you some large scale headaches down the road that are not necessary. Here you have two people with probably over 100 year of large scale poultry show type breeding recommending that you do not do a certain type of mating with BC Marans.
But like I always say do what ever makes you comfortable. With show poultry I have made most of the mistakes that can be made, and my only purpose here is help people with less experience.
