Here is that BCM male that I have been talking to you both about, please tell me about his comb. I don't really care for his tail but it's workable. Not as many photos as I had hoped for but my batteries died before I could get more.
Will charge them and get some pics tomorrow so you can give me the whole lowdown on him.
Pink, I would've sworn that was a pic of my Pip at that age! Be aware, he will have the "Hulk Hogan hackles". Can you get a closer pic of the comb tomorrow? From what I can see, it looks to have 7 points, and will be a neck sitter. I'll bet anything, he will molt out those two sickle feathers, and his tail won't look bad at all. He even has the look in the eye of Pip, is he a "nasty"?
Kim, from what I can see on the Comb, there is not a DQ, just uneven serration and possibly a thumbprint.
I quit using males with shank feathering like this male shows. I found that once you start culling for the shank feathering it is pretty easy to get the proper shank and toe feathering. Once people start showing the Marans and you have larger classes the Judge will tighten up the Standard and SOP for showing.
I like the color on the young male. Is he from BC or the Blue Copper Marans you have ?

I will watch for the Hulk hackles and let you know if it happens. No he is not a nasty, very loveable as a matter of fact. If he turns nasty it won't matter if he gets the Hulk hackles....know what I mean?
I have a question. I understand B/B/S and the % of each color, but I do have one question: I keep seeing Black/Blue Marans, should I keep my Black Coppers separate from the Black I breed with Blues? Are they different since they have the blue in their genes too? Just don't want to muddy the waters if that is the case.

Black and Blue Marans are rare and hard to find.......so if you have them, then yes, I would keep them seperate from your Coppers.
It does not muddy the water having the blue gene......the blue gene is a dilute of black........all it does is change everything that would have normally been black on a bird to blue. With the Coppers it does not change the copper pattern on the Black Coppers or the Blue Coppers, but a double dose of the blue gene (which creates a Splash) will affect the coppering on a Splash Copper bird.....it interupts the pattern and a person may only see flecks of copper. This is not the same with solid black, blue and splash birds as they do not have a pattern to interupt.
One copy of the blue gene dilutes black to blue, 2 copies of the blue gene dilutes even further to Splash.

Thanks... I don't have Blue or Black I have Blue Copper and Black Copper sorry for the confusion. SO a Black Copper from a FBCM x Blue Copper Marans is still a regular Black Copper and I don't need to explain that when I sell them? they would never produce a Blue Copper if breed to another Black Copper from that same mating?
