A couple pics of one of my "Blues Brothers"....this one is "Elwood"
The top pic shows him "in motion", which is usually how he is.

no I meant just to keep Bill and Lil' Bill since you said your gut isn't telling you to keep the other 2 that you wanted opinions on- sorry for the confusion!

This is the only shot I can get you Vicki.

My plan is to only keep Bill and his boy.

DON'T use the lighter blue gal in the front for breeding anything 'cept Oliver eggers. She has from what I can see a stupid comb. I just culled all stupid and suspected stupid combs and anything that resembled a comb that looked like this. I can't see the Black Copper behind her and toward the middle of the photo clearly but looks like her comb may be similar. The darker blue gal in the back...is that Dolly?

Ohhh and Elwood is looking nice. Looks like he just has too many points and no sprigs or stupid stuff happening. That is good to see.

no problem, most of the time when I am sitting and reading here I am also helping the kids stay on track with their homework so I do lose train of thought from time to time

so what should I look for in a boy for the Blue Copper Marans pullet of mine? She is the only Blue Copper Marans that I currently have but I might be able to add more of this color if DH's idea for our aviary works out- that would open a bit more space.

I culled 4 birds that had stupid combs, 2 that looked like this and 2 that had one sprig each. All from this years hatches of Gnarles cross GFF- BCM hens. I also culled 4 GFF- BCM hens that has suspicious looking combs, but no sprigs or carnation stuff. I will get those comb photos posted to.

I don't plan on doing anything with this flock other than eating their eggs. If I did decide to hatch any eggs out, they would just be for egg layers for myself.

You have a very good eye there, neighbor...that darker blue gal is Dolly.
I will probably re-home Elwood next spring and just keep Jake. Elwood has never developed any quality to his "crow"....he sounds terrible!

That was probably me and thanks bunches. Even if Walt does come along and says different on any of this, at least I now have a starting place on Marans. I don't plan on ever showing my babies but I do want to strive for breed conformity when it comes to who stays and who doesn't.

These are a couple of marans I have recently gotten, just for the eggs, not showing or breeding. Just wanted to post pics and see what yall think. The little roo is supposed to be a cuckoo marans and the other a blue marans. Can't wait to see the brown eggs!
