I don't remember the last time I had this few birds, but I have more space to fill back up now, slowly.

haha...did you bold the "slowly" part for us or for you? I'm constantly reminding myself of such things

I think people that know me would start worrying that I was selling out of my stock if I ever got down to 43 birds.

LOL! That was a subtle note to self. If I write it or type it, it sinks in. Most of the time.

I see what you mean about him not having that factor that just makes you undeniably want to keep him. I know you have Bill...and Bill Jr....do you have other blue copper cockerels you are definitely keeping? He does have nice width in his breast, but there is just something I can't put my finger on, but I don't like him as much as your other boys at all.

and yes I have another young cockerel but only managed to get 2 photos of him because he doesn't stand still. I will load those very soon.

these are the only other 2 boys that I still have.....the rest went bye bye. Looks like the only boys I will be keeping is Lil' Bill, Bill and Gnarles (I just can't rule Gnarles out yet)

haha I wondered!

I'm hoping to get down to 100 or less before winter...that includes my dad's stock I raise for him, so I don't feel like that's too bad, its just hard to know exactly where I will end up. All I know is that the Marans and Wyandottes do need their grow out time. I'm down to the last ones that I am giving time to grow out. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed

that winter holds off until I can make the last calls I need to on who stays and who goes.

One bonus is that over the last few days my back seems markedly improved and I'm not feeling the constant pain from that nerve...so I'm really hoping I'm getting back to normal. I usually am a workhorse and can get tons done, but this having to take things easily, I'm starting to go a bit stir crazy.

To me that's still a pretty good line up! I don't have a blue copper boy yet, but hope to try for one next spring with Gigantor and a couple of the nicer splash girls I have. If I end up with any near as nice as your boys I'll be happy happy!

Thanks friends...now you can see why I spend so much time in the Marans coop. I just love gazing out their window in their coop. We have views from almost every angle of the 2.5 acres of the property that we actively use....I LOVE LIVING IN DA HILLS! We don't use the rest of the property, but when we traverse it we still find that we have very nice views of the surrounding hills. Can't wait until the day we actually utilize all of the property and fill it up with more goaties and chickens, possibly a cow or 2, a long ear for my DH and maybe a horsey for myself. Someday.

Here are a couple shots of a 4 mos. old Blue Copper Davis cockerel I really do like very much, but looking at him the other day I noticed I am not liking the lower hackle color that is coming in. I will have to get more photos of him, I need honest feed back on him as well, he too needs to give me a really good reason to stay. If I had to choose one that could stay it would be this boy...just his hackles are scaring me.

I agree there is something about him maybe because he hasn't chunked out all the way through-he looks to have a good sized upper body but not so much on the bottom- it could be just how he is standing too.

I think he was a teaser....but he does show that even as far removed as the Bill blood in him is, Bill still has the power to pass on some nice genetics and that breast size, but I think he just didn't get it all. Bummer!

it's hard to decide who has to go, we go through it too and it allows us to work toward hatching a better one
