Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Oh, I know what you mean about the molting! I raked the run out yesterday, and this morning it looks like a pillow fight ensued!

Poor Clyde has been almost tailess for about a month, and he is even losing breast feathers. I know he's embarassed and feeling naked. Roy hasn't gotten into the full molt yet, but he has one dangly sickle feather, that waves in the breeze like a loose tooth! I want to go over and just yank it out, but I'll resist!

The girls are finally almost fully feathered. They had a lot of help from the roos with losing feathers, they looked so bald and pitiful for soooo long! Thankfully, I don't think I'll have to knit anyone a sweater for the winter!!

Morning!

No Marans hatched.

But I do have 4 cute little fluffy Barnevelders, 2 boys and 2 girls. The second girl to hatch is still in the 'bator figuring out how to get around, she was the last to hatch late last night and she broke a vein in there somehow and the shell started to dry to her. I removed the shell and noticed that she didn't completely absorb everything and this morning she has a little bump back there. Don't want to put her in with the other rascals that are running all over the place just yet.

BUT...I do have 10 eggs under a steadfast broody that hasn't budged since she got her eggs. LOL! She is serious. I had to move the food and water to directly infront of her face because she won't move. Those eggs went under her on the 27th, I need to look at a calendar and see approx when they will hatch.

Vicki~ The birds are beauties!!!!!!!! Love the sidewalk photo! Oh and the kitty!

thanks Kim! They are a work in progress, but I'm gettin there. I'm world away from where I started almost 2 years ago...that's for sure.
We'll have to be hatching buddies on some Silver Birchen projects this next spring so we can watch them grow out together

What do you think of that young blue copper girl growing out. She is shy and distrusts the camera, so that's the best pic I could get at the moment. I have 2 or 3 more growing out too...one girl is incredibly dark. I'm hoping if my back behaves I'll catch up that pen and look at them and maybe get a few more photos. These are my first blue coppers and think I'll put them with Gigantor in the spring and see how they do

Vicki~

I really like the color of her copper coming in and she looks to have great lacing going on. She looks great so far! What color are her eyes?

Ohhh and me loves that dark headed blue gal in the photo with the Birchen girl and the blue gold gal.

She can come over and visit here anytime.

Oh and I saw someone ask about the blue gold color.....did someone explain that to her?

So, I've never posted on here but thought I'd say hello

I've got 2 Marans pullets. One is Blue Copper and the other is Black. They've just started laying the past few weeks. Will their egg color get darker? They both started off very dark, but one of them now lays a lighter egg. Anyways here's a picture of one of my girls.
