Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

That's so exciting debbi!! How many eggies do you have left that haven't pipped or hatched yet? I am thinking I might give dry hatching a shot this next spring since I've had mixed results with the whole process. For me I notice I need different humidity for the different seasons for sure. With my other breeds it doesn't seem to matter too much, but those Marans are picky ones sometimes!

Woo hoo! Maybe you should try talking to them. If it works for laying, maybe it will for hatching too? I played Beethoven and Bach for my hatchers and they POPPED right out!!!

I've spoken to my girls about laying. Made sure I had their attention and called them all by name.

(They are just coming up on 6 months - 26 weeks). I am FULLY expecting DARK eggs by tomorrow, Debbi.

Atta girl, it sure can't hurt! I can't see how many more pips I have now, the two little ones are bowling with babies! I'm thinking three more have pipped. So that would leave 8 left to go. Total of 13 eggs in there, and my mind is mush this morning, not a good night's sleep.

Oh yes! I talk to the eggs too. By day 23 though, the talk can get a tad threatening!

The last one to hatch has dried off more, and it definately looks splash! We also have shank/toe feathering too!!

Yay! good job chickers! I play music for my hatches too! I get made fun of for it here at home from friends and family, but my hatch rates have definitely improved with the music...so its gonna keep happening around here.

haha I love it Debbi!! When I'm at work that song comes on at least 3 times an hour....It's burned in my brain....so I don't enjoy it much right now, but I could definitely see the chickers lovin it!

Vicki~ When I get more stock it will be Black Copper, Blue Copper and Splash Copper. Keep your fingers crossed that getting them someday works out.

I will!! I'll keep my ears open too. Any certain lines you are lookin for? If I keep working on the NPIP stuff I'll have some hatching eggs before too long. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for any signs of anything suspect in the combs for sure. Second I see something, those birds causing it will be gone.
