if i go with my gut....i think its a carnation. a tear on that part of the comb in that shape shouldnt give you that crown set shape of points at the back..... i think there should be others that will come along to offer up second opinions. you might want to check all your other boys for that same problem....it is a genetic nightmare to try to get rid of

and you can see the little part that was torn and its further up on the comb its self... WHY?!?!?! me

I have a pic of a splash roo that is a full brother out of the same breeding pair and his isnt wonky.
But it figures he fits into our family so well and were all wonky!

haha....main thing with the stock you got from the same place is they more than likely all have the gene even if they dont show it. if you are wanting to breed and raise birds close to the standard you'll need to test mate them and see what they throw....

they would work fine if you are lookin to have a laying flock, but not as pure Marans since they have been crossed with Penedesencas at some point...hence the comb problem.

I got like 12...most of them were roos and they were butchered but i have 3hens and 2 roos that i kept. my other stock look decent now im paranoid. the hens dont have those combs but they are with a roo from some eggs i hatched. so we will know in the next month what will come out... Ill should be able to tell as chicks...you think?
