Debbi~ Can't see the other pullets that well but I agree with Illia on the pullet, right in front with more copper in her hackle. Looks to be a nice tone of copper coming in also.

Thanks guys. The one you both like is "Pretty" first one born. The other one behind her, is "Beaut". Beaut has the feathered shanks, and has the nice copper color coming in too, although not quite as much yet. Pretty does not have any shank feathering, and was the only one born that way. The one on the left is "Precious" who was the very colorful chick from the beginning. She had leg feathering when born but doesn't have them any more. Do leg feathers ever come back, like after a molt?? If nothing else, they will give me eating eggs..

So she hatched with feathered shanks and then lost them? I've never had one hatch with feathered legs and then lose them, but I will tell you that I have had three roosters that lost their shank feathers during a molt and on the rooster that I didn't send to the freezer, his feathers are starting to come back in now.


BTW: Almost a month ago, my nephew and I butchered 12 cockerels, one unknown he/she, and I rehomed 2- 4 mos olds 1 roo and 1 pullet..................I usually make 2 trips to the feed store a month and yesterday after purchasing feed and sundries I was able to do the math on feed consumption. Ya'll know that I saved 300 lbs of feed since putting those birds in the freezer and rehoming the other 2.

I also introduced all the flocks to free ranging during the day which I had not been able to do up until about 6 or so weeks ago, it sure does make a huge difference in how much feed they go through. Now I am kicking myself for not getting them out on the range sooner.

Ok, found one shot of Beaut, the one on the back right in the first pic. She is the biggest, and has the leg feathering, although she seems to be losing them too?? What's up with that? Her copper is coming in more slowly than the others, but it's coming

The other in this pic is Fuglee Roo, poor boy

Yes, three had leg feathers when born, the only that never had any was "Pretty", the one you both liked. Now the only two with the shank feathers are Fuglee roo and Beaut, but their feathers are getting thinner by the day. They are all going through a juvenile molt right now, so maybe that's it?? More than likely, unless there are some drastic changes, none of these will be in the breeding pen.

He looks like he is going to be a nice sized bird. I like how he is already carrying himself. Can't wait to see him at about 6 mos of age!
