I kept the four males I used for the real nice colored pullets I raised this year. My Son has a few of the best of the wheaten, he also has some of the sisters to the males I still have. Pictures coming up soon as I get him out here to hold the males.

I'd like to see pics also. Are these on your Marans that you sold off awhile back? I thought you said you got rid of all your Marans or am I thinking of someone else?

Seriously though... Don: How are the splash coming? Did you ever find a good male to make them from?

Math Ace: I am all about the lowriders aaaaaannnnndddd head shape. I can most definetly tell what I want in a juvenile bird 6 weeks or so is old enough to sort out my faves for head shape... Ones that look like pee wee marbles... not ones that I keep. I like a hawklike shape or that of a cochin LF as a juvenile... (that is the kind of look I am personally going for).... We all put our own personal stamp on the birds in our yards... some ppl like the leggy ones... Just a personal choice... The standard calls for a specific thing and then we get to stamp our own personal look within that. IF they look hawk like as juveniles the turn out with the style I am going for... You are right math.... study and look closely at them... The key here is to know your own flock and that is only with the help of Father time.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/16367_picture_423.jpg Well This is what I like for head shape and leg feathering... for anyone who wonders... I don't have a good pic of a male currently... I will have to dig out my camera... not sure where it is at this moment, but I hope this helps. I am of course only speaking of the pullet in the dead center.

I can't seem to find the answer to this question. I bought a mixture of blue, black and splash marans. I also have a couple of black copper birds, and one BC roo. I have a gorgeous blue roo that I intend on using. Is there any reason to keep the BC roo? What would I get if I crossed the BC marans and the blue hen? BTW, BC's are much prettier in real life than a photo. He just shimmers when he walks.

Ok, enough gushing for now.

flowerchild: Uh ya.. keep the BC rooster if he has good qualities... you may use him for breeding copper into your program if you don't have BL/B/Spl with them already. If the male is from a dark egg you may make that part of the consideration also.

IF you use your blue rooster on your hens you mute your black.... I wouldn't mix them if I didn't have to... keep the bc's bc and the blue pen, blue pen. I wouldn't dare off him if you like him.... especially if he shimmers when he walks... Let see him... picture pleeeeze

the pee wee marble comment cracked me up!! Sounds like we like similar type on birds. I for sure am not a fan of the long legs...I like'em nice and wide and lower to the ground haha

Oh my! I'm not even going to try to catch up... what a busy weeks/weekend. Had some family just Randomly stop by from out of state. They were like "were going to get a hotel and stick around town here for a while"

I love my family BUT man Iwas wanting to get my pens finished by tomorrow...there is a possibility of snow

I just had to open my mouth

and invite them to stay here instead of wasting money.

Good news I'm so excited to be back to normal
