Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Nah, no sarcasm, 100% truth. But they know I enjoy it, so I get away with it. It's right up there with I can't get a babysitter, or the kid threw up in school....
Well. I have chickens. So there. Fire me. PLEEEEZE.

haha Awesome! It feels weird to be getting ready for a show since I haven't shown in a few years, but I'm lovin it at the same time. I've got quite a bit to do after lunch and to get the rest of my sale birds sorted for the show, but those won't take nearly as long. Its gettin sale birds ready for my dad that is going to be the challenge and a half.

nope...those are good to go...just do the basic cursory check on the nails and etc, then decide who stays and goes and such that will take the longest. His birds have the luxury of inside runs in the chicken house, so they don't get nearly as messy as my big birds that have their runs outside. Another challenge of the stuff with my dad's birds is that he is legally blind and has other pretty significant health problems, so he's having a hard time with it all. He has been grumpy all week, I think because he says he doesn't want to show anymore, but know it really isn't the case, he just gets upset by his limitations and knows that I'm doing all the work for his stock and still isn't quite ready to turn them over to me. So, I walk a fine line and have to be really careful about what I say and don't say and etc. I would be more than happy to continue his work on his breeding program since I have helped him since I was a kid and do all the work now, but its all in his timing, and I'm ready for when he is, but its just hard watching a parent's health get worse and etc.

I entered 10 for the show, but ended up with only 7 in good enough feather to go...so I have the 7 washed up and all but three are totally dry. I have 3 or 4 cuckoo girls I'm taking tomorrow for Anna from here ready to go. Then I am thinking of taking a light sussex pullet/coronation cockerel pair for sale, I have more than I need and they are too good to just send to freezer camp. I am going to see about finding some mates for some of my Wyandotte partridge, silver penciled, and BLR pullets, since its the Western Wyandotte Nationals, but if there is nothing, I will take some of my girls and only keep the best couple of each to hold over winter, and sell them. I need to desperately get my numbers down before its too cold.
Then as far as my dad's birds, I'd guess there will be several pairs and trios to go of bantam wyandottes in BBS and Whites.

I still remember the day I loaded 22 Birds in the back of my VW.
That is a day I don't think I can EVER forget! And I think there were only 5 bantams....

haha you crack me up! That is quite the feat! I have an Explorer and my mom is taking my dad and will bring their sale birds in their van, so I definitely won't have that problem. I promise to get pics of birds I think are gorgeous!
