Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I have a totally random question for you guys. I don't know if anyone has ever tried this or not, but has anyone or do you know of anyone that has had success buying feed in bulk directly from a Purinal Feed Mill? I live about 5 minutes from one and when I was growing up it was strictly for processing dog food, but now they do all sorts I just found out...so wondering what my chances might be at getting bulk.

I have always felt that the best part of going anywhere or doing anything was coming home. I have worked to make my home my favorite place. I have a stocked Bluegill/crappie pond, Riverfront property with a great fishing hole & fireplace at waters' edge, I have my shop, my critters.....everything I want right here. I hate to leave and always am glad to be back.

it is the best part of a day to go home where you can just be yourself and be around things that mean the most. For me its my animals and art stuff for sure.

I haven't but it never hurts to ask. Just send them an e-mail or fine the number and call. I've been in contact with Nutrena and they call me after I e-mail them. This last call she left me her number. I suppose you'll have to pay upfront. It's not likely you'll be able to open an account. However if more people contact for home delivery once a month they might see the wisdom of acommodating us.

Vicki, Personally, I don't like Purina products, and will never use them; no matter the price. JMO

Mel, you're making me really jealous with the description of your place. Only I'd want black bass and channel cats in that pond.

Thanks Debbi, that's good to know. I was hoping I could get by with a community type nesting box instead of compartments. I'm a lousy carpenter and this will make it much easier on me.

Slick, I had 5 seperate nest boxes made, and they ALL lay in the same one!!

I didn't use Purina for a long time either, but had so many people mention the flockraiser and decided I'd try it and my birds have responded really well on it. I can get it from the local coop for almost 3 bucks cheaper a 50 pound bag than TSC, but thought I'd see what I could do. The layer I use is private label and not labeled as Purina, but is indeed made by Purina which my birds have done great on. I was surprised to find that out. I wonder if it makes a difference that the feed is picked up weekly by the local coop...

Hope all are aware that Purina does no longer put meat scraps in their chicken feed. I believe it is a must to have the meat as part of their ration.

I need to put some bass in there to eat down the small bluegill. I also have huge Koi in there and one 5 foot long sturgeon. I'm waiting for one of the neighborhood kids to hook that sturgeon on their little bluegill rod. The kids sneak in and fish when they think I'm not looking but really I watch them with my binocs. They have a regular path worn into the pond and where they scoot under the barbed-wire fence there are often shreds of clothing..It's AWESOME!

I kinda have the same thing with my layers. Sixteen individual boxes and out of the 10 birds they only use four. I was just worried that if I made one long one and two were using it at the same time one might get weird about it.
