I'm not sure what exactly was in the original post, but with the birchens....as far as temperament, I don't notice any difference between them and my bcms. I have had one that cockerel that was a bit of a turd, but it was mostly to do with when he thought I was trying to pick up one of his girls, but I've had other breeds to the same thing, so it doesn't bother me, since they are just doing what they think they should. He wasn't mean, just protective

Most birchens need things worked on, like size, leg feathering, and egg color. I do have one line of birchens that are very slow in developing as they grow. I have two birchen girls that at a year old still looked pretty small to me, but thought I'd hold onto them and see how they developed. At a year and a half they have really filled out and have some nice size and heft to them, but still run a bit shy of where I'd like them to be. i don't know if this answered the questions, but if not, just let me know if you have any others

Hey Randy, have you noticed if any of your Wheaten Marans roos still keep growing after a year old? I swear two of my year and a half old males are still growing and not just fatter LOL! One is the same sized tall as a large black orpington (Mr. T) that is in his bachelor pad. The blk orp used to be taller and fluffier than my largest Wheaten guy but I noticed the other day the Wheaten is the same hieght as the blk orp when they were standing near the feed dish together.
I really love the Wheaten roos...they are such gentle giants!

yes I have noticed I keep growing up to 15 months it make sense to me because the hen's take so long to lay eggs 30+ weeks I've never had a mean rooster(wheaten) the only time I have ever been attacked was when I was carrying a nother rooster in my arms I have 4 large roosters living in the same pen they get along just fine what if I was to separate them for even a day they would fight like dogs but all the roosters I have ur very nice and I have hatched and raised many now in my 5 year history I have 1 hen that is a very very slow grower and I'm keeping my eye on her
I have a feeling she is going to be a very dark egg layer only because she grows slow maybe she will lay an egg slow lol

Would it have hurt someone to answer my questions? Apparently this is not the right place to ask them.

Thanks for nothing,

Rancher

I don't have Birchens but I do have Black and Blue Coppers and a pair of Cuckoo chicks. The Cuckoos are the friendliest chicks in my brooder. The Black Coppers grew fast but were slow to mature. Eggs didn't start until 31 weeks. I'm still waiting for my Blue Copper. My Blue Copper cockerel is the nicest boy I've had. Black Copper cockerel has his moments. The Black Copper pullets have become MUCH friendlier now that they are laying. I wouldn't say any of them were particularly hard to deal with.

Rancher,

I can't answer your question because I don't have birchens.

They are still hard to come by and not many of us have them.

Most likely you did not receive an answer because there are just not that many with birchens.
