They are GORGEOUS all of them!

LOVE LOVE those big tanky girls! Love them! I had to install backup beepers on my girls.

These are the 3 Black Coppers - looking like 1 male in front and 2 females behind, I'm thinking.

It is also interesting to note that the ones I'm assuming are females at this point have MUCH heavier leg feathering - one with the short toe. Male in front has the lightest leg feathering by far. (Male's comb is wounded and not funky like it appears in this photo.)

Is it possible to get a photo of the chick in the middle with just the pullet in the back?

thanks! I am really happy with how my youngsters are filling out. I know I still have some more culling to do, but I'm hopeful that breeding season this next spring will be really good. Think if I try out that blue copper girl on my splash Big Boy or Gigantor that I might have something decent? I was leaning more towards big boy because he has a longer back..thought it might help balance out her shorter back.

I love those little baby doll sheep...if I had the place for more animals, I'd definitely have some.

Got these photos yesterday of the 2 Blue Copper pullets that I kept out of a hatch early this year. One female is the result of crossing Bill, Sr. to a Black Copper hen from Florida and the other is a daughter from Gnarles and one of Bill's daughters, those other blue girls I posted a couple days ago....just can't remember which one is her mom, probably #92. Neither one of them show any copper and I don't care for the first ones tail too much but I believe I can work with that.

Neither girl has funky combs and both have lightly feathered shanks.

I apologize for the far away photos, the little beasts are pretty standoffish, they think everytime I come near the coop I am going to catch them so they are very wary of me. Dummies....did they forget that I feed them and have taken care of them since they hatched, geesh, duh! I will get better photos if they will let me and if you all need them.

Anyway....this first pullet posted is the direct daughter of Bill, Sr., she is also the one that laid that spectacularly dark egg several weeks ago and nothing since.

The second pullet is a Bill's daughters daughter...how was that for a tongue twister? Ha ha! I created Bill's oldest daughters with my original Davis hens, so they should be clear of any comb issues, I would think. Her eyes are just a little too dark but at this point I just can't cull her for that.

My question is......are they too directly related to Lil' Bill to breed? I have to look back in my records to be 100% certain, but he came from Bill crossed over my Splash girl, Darryl.

I only have these 5 gals left that I have posted recently that I can try out that I believe just might be clear of the carnation.

I can also try these gals out with that boy of Gnarles that Don liked to see if they will toss out the stupid comb. LOL! He needs a name if he is going to stay around, I just can't keep calling him the bird that Don liked.

What would you all do? Thoughts please!

hmmm...so are these girls from different mothers than Lil' Bill. I'm afraid I just now am taking my first sip of coffee this morning and am not sure my brain is working yet.

I also have a question about my little Marans. She is healing up really well and very alert and talkitive and has a good appetite, but...and this is a big but.....there is a tear on her neck where the neck attaches to the rest of the body. Its torn and there is a hole there. I am not sure how to bandage it or anything. I've been keeping it clean with an antiseptic and it looks good, but I'm just afraid of infection. Any suggestions how to bandage her up without choking her to death?

I would say they are ok then, Sounds like if I'm understanding right you would be working with aunts, and cousins possibly? Again...my brain is on slow...coffee is my fuel.

I would keep her in the house until it closes with a nice scab on it's own as long as there is no infection and bleeding. Treat it as a puncture wound and you should be fine. She is better off with you inside the house until it closes.
