I like the tube sock idea! I tried the vet wrap with a gauze pad, but the spot it is on her, she just wriggles the vet wrap from its snug spot, so I thought I'd try again, but this time I'll do a simplified harness of sorts...so the vet wrap cant work its way loose, and can give her a chance to heal up well. I might put the tube sock idea to use as well, over the top of the vet wrap...that way she has a bit more protection! Thanks for all the ideas! I'm feeling hopeful about her again. When i saw how bad it actually was on her neck, even tho the rest of her is doing really well...its given me kind of a sick feeling in my stomach, but maybe, just maybe we have something figured out for her! She is LOVING all this attention, that's for sure.

After a certain amount of time the skin will not want to reattach or heal on it's own. You may have to close it manually with a couple of "X" stitches to help it close. If it doesn't take with a couple of "x" stitches then it will most likely have to close on it's own.

yeah...I was wondering about that myself...where it has attached and stuck has been in the corners and looks like it was a little more closed this morning...I was just hoping if it were at least covered while it does its healing thing it would keep out infection and foreign matter.

OH!! that just reminded me of something...a friend of mine in Iowa had a horrific attack on a young dairy doe of hers by a pig and she has been using something she said works like a charm. After seeing right after the vet had cleaned her up to how she looks now, just a couple of weeks later, you would never know it was the same goat, its still gross, but the speed of healing is just amazing! Her vet told her it is good for all types of animals. I'm gonna have to go look it up, I was very interested in it and never thought of using it on her til just now. here is the link of the med's website http://vetericyn.com/

The tube sock with gauze under it will help keep it clean. If you end up needing to put an X use a hot pink or lime green if you don't have suture so you can find it to remove later. When wrapping a neck injury you have to figure 8 around the body and the base of the neck injury to hold vet wrap in place properly. Lift the wings and wrap just around the body and then around the neck. It will flex with her neck as she walks but hold the gauze in place at the same time.
