Seeing as how Splash is a dilute of Blue, if you continually breed Splash to Splash, you will lose more and more of the blue spots. Need to breed the Splash back to a Blue to maintain the color. That said, I don't have a Splash roo either...yet!

[Hens and Roos]

Well finally finished downloading pictures and resizing them. Will share just a few interesting ones that we took today.

Black Marans chick- male- picture of his comb, he is now 6.5 weeks

Blue Marans chick- female- picture of her comb, she is now 6.5 weeks

Blue Marans chick-male-picture of his body, he is now 6.5 weeks- can you tell me what is odd about him?

You are going to want to sit on this boy for a month any ways just to make sure he isn't carring anything contagious....

In selective breeding.... you always want to match the traits in the hen and roo. If his tail is real high you would want to use your hens with the lowest tail sets.
If his tail is WRY , you don't want to use him at all.
If his tail if just right.... then you could pair him with hens that are slightly high.

Then there is the issue of how open is his tail.

I, PERSONALLY, would rather WAIT to select the hen that compliments him the best versus hatching a bunch of chicks that I might not be happy with.

OH LET's NOT FORGET the big WHITE in the tail feather DQ...

I think its all in the timing. I don't mind so much the first 2-3 weeks then after that, they get stinky lol
