Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Yes Lynette, that first boy of yours is Blue Butt's typical look! He attacks my male German Shepherd, and for the life of me, I don't know why he gets away with it? Otho should've taken his head off months ago!

Otho, will go after Pip though, but I think that is because Pip growls at me, then does the nasty wing dance. Otho won't tolerate that one! Pip flying and screaming, Otho in semi-intense pursuit!

see in that first pic you posted...how the back of the comb seems to come out of a hole, and where the comb is folded down and then the explosion from the center of that fold. That's pretty typical of invert/telescope combs...not that crazy explosion, but the fold part. I'll keep hunting around to see if I can find some pics for you

Yup, these things when they first start to show, look like they are "ingrown". Almost like if you squeezed them, they pop up and out, like a huge zit! This comb of his has still not come out all the way. See how swollen the base of it looks?? He has a sister that has the same type of comb, although on a much smaller scale. Still, both have that "ingrown" thing going on.

haha that last pic threw me for a loop. I was so focused on looking closely at the boy and trying to figure out what the heck was going on with his tail that as I followed it up off his back my eyes did this
ep.gif
as they landed on an eyeball! It was then I realized I might be kinda out of it tonight...I was seeing the bird behind him...I'm a dink.

LOLOLOL I had to try the same thing...I see what you mean LOL! OKay what have you been drinking? AND how come you didn't share LOL!

His tail isn't wry but it kinda looks that way the way he was holding it and strutting around. He turned out to be a huge boy and has some nice coppering now which is the only reason I've kept him. He gives me crap every night when I go to lock him up. He doesn't stay in the bachelor pad with the others because he is low ranking and so he runs out every morning when I open the door. I just let him freerange during the day and he behaves himself but boy once the sun starts going down he gets really NUTS! Its like he's a Sundowner...seriously. He trys to walk behind me so he can flog me when I'm going to lock him up. First I lock all the others up because he won't go into his coop until its really getting dark and all the other roos are perched. So he follows me around to the other coops to lock up everyone else...he behaves during this..but soon as we start going to HIS coop he starts acting out.

that's what is leading me to believe he may have more than one comb problem going.

hahah unfortunately the strongest thing I've had today is coffee. I've been pretty stressed for the last week or so and its been keeping me up at night and so its probably just lack of sleep doing its thing.

I agree. Up until now, all I could call this thing was a "Double Dose of Carnation". I don't know what to think, except it's FUGLY!!!

yeah...its been something I've been thinking about for a little while since I've seen his pic. I would guess he also has invert or telescope problems and either sprig or carnation....or if possible, all three? That I don't know about....what I do know tho...is that inverts and telescopes will take over in no time if left unchecked...just like sprigs
