Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hmm-you bring up a good point!!
I usually resort to little "gladware" bowls in the incubator drawer but that's what the hatcher with all those nice dividers for...
Why keep all those records if the chicks will get all mixed up!

Hmm- maybe I'll fire it up again this spring!

yup...exactly. I'll have to show you what I use for my dividers. They are pretty nifty and made a series of different sizes so I can mix and match based upon my needs for each hatch. Works really well and doesn't disrupt airflow at all. That's been my trouble in the past when using other things for dividers. The other bonus is that the chickers can't get hurt either!

Strawberry baskets??

Janet ~ Just for kicks and giggles, tag the chick with the yellow shank fluff. I would be curious to see if it is clean legged as it gets older, and as adult! All the chicks I have hatched here with yellow shank fluff, have grown up clean legged. Cute babies, by the way!

nope...I would but they are still too tall and don't like how they get smaller at the bottom, however I do use them for when I take chickers out...and I also use these boxes I got from work that are awesome! They have built in dividers, so the chick/chicks go in each slot along with the egg top with my writing so i can see where they are from and keeps them all separated until I can get them all marked so I know who is who!...I'm a wee bit ocd about wasted space...haha Give me a couple of minutes...I gotta go grab the dividers and take a couple of shots and load them.

Can't wait to see them! Will have to be in the morning, I'm off to bed! Three more days of "the heat", and I may be able to get some more rest! Mr. Humpty Dumpty is driving me CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Debbi-do you find ALL the feathers don't come in
Or

Do you find the yellow fuzz doesn't grow in, but grey fuzz on the same leg will??

I'll have to get photos of my big, fluffy blue kid hatched on NewYear's Day-I'm pretty sure his leg fuzz is all yellow (lots of yellow on that fella!). We can do a photo journal on him, too!

alright...here is what I use to divide out my hatching tray in my sportsman. Its that plastic craft cross stitch material. Works great and just ran a couple of loops of fishing line to stitch the edges together. When I am not using them I can fold them down and store them. This makes it easy to have so many sizes and not have them take up much space when not in use.

I use baskets from the Dollar Store with hardware cloth over the top. Could probably stack them, but I couldn't see the babies underneath if I did.
