Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Vicki, be strong! You have plans, and ideas, stick to them!!! Me...not so much, I just need to see what color of Silkies I get here! Now if it were Marnas, I could definately pass; nothing here worth hatching until I can pair them off, and even then, maybe not? Stick to your guns!! For me...I'm on that chickie high!

what incubator?

hahah unfortunately its hard to miss the incubator...its a cabinet unit....and just so easy to plug in and I'm off... But I WILL NOT!! At least not until the girls are cleared!

I thought you were looking to BUY one! lol My flexwatt will be here Friday, so the next bator is not far off. My bator is full, lockdown Saturday and the next batch the next Saturday. More eggies coming tomorrow. ENABLER here too sorry.

I do have plans! I am quite certain by the end of hatching season I might feel like I'm crazy, but I wanna know exactly what I've got here and who can stay and who can go and with the progress I'm seeing in all my pens with the egg color (like the photos I posted the other night), including the birchens, its making me even more determined to do my best by the Marans. Raising birds to show quality is what I love to do and after being away from it while in school...and now finding the Marans, its twice as frustrating, but also much more rewarding...I just gotta remember the joys of it when things don't go my way ya know? Even now with having to show self control in not turning on the incubator.

I know some of these are of the same chick, sorry about that. Also, one has prominent white feathers coming in on the wing tips. Is this normal? It's the one with the yellow feathering down the leg.

Thanks!

haha I'm always looking at incubators...mostly what I'm wanting now is to have a hatcher to go with my set up to make my life so much easier!

I have a practically new, barely used hatcher for sale!
I decided I'm NOT going to have THAT many chicks at each hatch this season, so I am NOT firing up that hatcher!

Only hatching what I can hatch in the cabinet incubator!!
I won't, I won't, I won't....

Keeps the numbers down and keeps me from being overwhelmed by all those chicks!
Small groups are easier for me to handle and move up through the succession of grow-out tubs and pens!!

well crap! Know anyone going through NE? I'd take that puppy off your hands. Around here people are wanting full blown retail on them even if they have beat the crap out of them and never taken care of them either. Makes no sense to me

I don't hatch that many at any given time, my issue is more of a space issue....I separate all the eggs that go to each hen I'm test mating into dividers I made for the hatching trays and in some cases will put eggs in their own individual dividers..so it eats up space for hatching very many at a time. But it sure does make my life easier recordkeeping wise.

my uncle has a great set up which includes one...and his planning goes so much smoother than mine, he can kind of wing it, I have to keep careful track of everything
