Gee, I really hate being awake at 4am.
I guess I get to join the bad comb club too. I just found this on
1 of my 6 week old BCM chicks. I only have 6 chicks so I had
hoped that it would skip me. LOL
Sorry about the bad pic. I was using my cellphone to take the pic
with one hand and trying to hold onto a wild chick with the other.
I haven't decided yet if I'm going to get into the Marans like I did the
Silkies yet. I have found that the Marans chicks I have are some of the
wildest, nervous, flighty birds that I have ever dealt with. And they are
so young to be that way, or at least that is my opinion

Lisa, they are a little bouncy in the beginning, but you can't compare them to Silkies. Those fuzzballs are from another planet!
And I am saying that out of experience, please don't take it the wrong way...
But I think you should hang in there, and give it a shot.
They should calm down as they get older, and if they don't, they sure do taste good!

Now you have to find out where that bad comb came from, and correct the problem.....

Oh, don't worry about it. I don't take much of anything the wrong way, and if I do, well, we
are all entitled to our own opinion. LOL.

The only problem with the comb is that I hatched these from shipped eggs. I
ended up with 2 cockerels and 4 pullets, it looks like to me. They are the only
Marans I have. I don't have the time or space right now to try and hatch out more
shipped eggs, and don't have the time to travel anywhere to try and get decent
started birds.
My 75 year old MIL lives with us (I should say me, LOL, as my
hubby is still in Texas while I'm in MO with her) and I have to drive her everywhere.
Between doctor visits and church twice a week, I usually just want to hide away at
home.

. Guess the trap will be set tomorrow for the varmint... Pip roosts up on the front porch, hope the other two do the same... Luckily, all the hens are coming into the run right away now when called up! Olivia is sad, cause JR was her roost buddy.

Sorry about your loss with JR.
I have not had any luck with trapping a fox.

The best thing for us was pouring hamburger grease on the burn pile right before sunset.
THEN WATCH.... if the fox is in the neighborhood, he will come check out the grease around sunset or shortly afterwards.

Math! Who's got a Cougar on the roof???
ep.gif
I had a dream about a cougar last night! Maybe I should check my roof!?

Sorry, about that... I have been working the last 24 hours to get caught up on this thread.

THANK GOD, it has slowed now since we switched to the NEW BYC. Being a WEEK behind on the
last system would of meant a MONTH of trying to catch up instead of only 1 day!

So Gilavina posted some pics about a week ago. As the postings went on, it was decided that it was probably a family of
racoons doing the damage instead of a bob cat as originally suggested.

I think that perhaps Math may have quoted the wrong post....she was probably reading back through the thread and ran across Anna's post about the animal coming into her coop via the roof....just a quess and with some of the quirks that the new BYC is having probably the wrong post was quoted. I know I've been whacky things go on lately as I have tried to quote and post.

Yep, That is what I did.... Hit the quote button and typed my reply!
I can't help what the crazy system does after that.

Qball53 did a post. It sounded just like DON. I hit the quote botton because there was something about longhorns ( AND without my glasses I thought it said LEGHORNS

). When the reply window showed up, you could see that PART of the quote was a QUOTE from Don, BUT in the original post it did not indicate any quote from Don....

I know, right

.. Longhorns...Leghorns.....at first I read the same.
I have also been having the same issue with the quote and reply and edit. Soon all of the kinks will be worked out in the wash....poor Nifty is doing some major laundry me thinks.

Lisa, we have ALL made that mistake. I have even gotten eggs from e-bay that were sold to me as Marans.
My sex links lay a darker egg! Oh well...

Strength to you. Maybe this spring I will have eggs worthy of selling, will let you know.

Oh gees Barb, sorry to see that! I think I would test mate your roo before you get into any heavy production. JMO. Love the avatar, looks like a SHE to me!!

I too am sorry to hear that Barb and wanted to agree with Debbi and say...test mate your Marans roo if you used a Marans roo to create your Olive eggers.
