Really don't want it to be lost because the mods shut down this thread like they did the old one because folks couldn't play nice.

That's not fair to all the rest of us who're trying to follow the "play nice rules".

Hopefully, I will finsih our last coop this weekend. Then set up our breeding pens.
I have a hen who has been broody for 2 weeks now....

HATCHING .... I would be doing it already if I wasn't going to Newnan in a few more weeks

I will be setting eggs as soon as I get back....

Nope, not from me! I won't post another thing about any findings on combs here. Evidently, I know nothing. Sure don't want this thread shut down due to this; I've learned too much other stuff here, and made some GREAT friends!

For those of you who have made your own incubators that are tall: What did you use for a heat source? I am thinking of using a radiant heat panel..anyone used one of those? It is compatible with the thermostat I got and won't burn anything. Any other ideas?

I used Christmas lights. The old fashion type that actually put heat off!
We did NOT use the giant bulbs. We used the smaller outdoor bulbs.
We spread the bulbs out... so that the heat source was distributed....

Lisa, got a pic of that?? I can't imagine it? They put out that much heat? I know the older big bulbs might, but the little ones??? Wow! Since they are now shutting down the incandesent bulbs, what are you all using for heat? This really stinks, as I need the old bulbs for my well house heat too! I HATE these new bulbs! I've had 2 of them go out after one month's useage, and I've been told not to use them for frequent useage, as in the bathroom where the light will be turned on and off frequently. While the mercury content is probably nil (heck, we used to bring pure Mercury to science class to play with on the desks!), I still don't think they are all that "green", and sure cost a whole bunch more. What are you guys doing??

The discount outlets like Dollar General still have them here in the States.

Big Lots has them. Check the cheaper stores which carry them for customers who can't afford the more expensive corkscrew lights. (Yeah, I can see it now.."What are you doing at this end of town, Ma'am? " Oh, I am just buying light bulbs, officer.".

Best,
Karen
(Radient panel sounds good. Just make sure you use the thermostat and don't let the panel be anywhere that the birds can touch it.).

I wasn't trying to hurt anyone's feelings or drive anyone from the list. Just asking
to keep the sandbox a fun place to play. Please don't feel anyone has to leave over this.
Thanks,
Karen
