Yes, it was in Canada. This one was in Guelph, Ontario, not far from where Troy lives. Title was: Poultry Seminar - topics: Interpretation of the Standard for the breeding pen and the show room (what to look for in your birds, understanding the wording, understanding defects and DQs, difference between show birds, breeders, and culls) and Breeding Methods and practices to meet goals in your birds (record keeping, fertility, culling.) I know Troy is VERY generous with his time and knowledge around here. This is the second such seminar I've heard of him giving this year in Ontario. If you ever run into him judging, ask him questions. He is VERY approachable. Many thanks need to go out to our host for organizing the seminar and providing us with space and so many birds to work with.

I am new here as are a few others. I have read several hundred pages looking for something and have not come across it. I have searched but admittedly I am poor at internet searches. So, I will just ask my question. We are just getting started with Marans, first a few Birchen then a few splash. About half of the splash have some copper appearing which is not desirable to me. I am wondering since Birchen covers red would I be able to breed my Birchen roo to the Splash hens that show some copper and eliminate that color demonstration? I see a few calling their Splash Copper Splash and a few say Blue Splash. Are these birds bred up in a different manner or is copper in the genetics of all the splash? Thanks for your help in this matter,
T. Michael

Probably the most common Marans at this point are the copper varieties so chances are your splashes are copper splashes. The truly (i.e. not over melanized) non-copper B/B/S varieties are VERY rare.

I can't answer your question about breeding to a Birchen roo but I am interested in the answer.

ugh....I know I have info on that somewhere. I will keep looking for it and if i run across it I will post it. I can't remember how long it is before you start seeing pure silvers again, but I know it takes a decent amount of time and careful culling to get there.

gilavina-- I will search the back posts to find any pics. Having done cc long ago , I know the material. It's also easy to cut and form into boxes. HOw high are the sides and does it need support to keep chicks in it's proper section?

How you design your dividers with the cross stitch canvas all depends on what kind of incubator you have and how the hatching tray area looks. I have a sportsman so I just cut the material to the same height of the hatch tray, so when I put the lid on over the top of the tray, the dividers can't be jumped.
