Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

How you design your dividers with the cross stitch canvas all depends on what kind of incubator you have and how the hatching tray area looks. I have a sportsman so I just cut the material to the same height of the hatch tray, so when I put the lid on over the top of the tray, the dividers can't be jumped.

Perhaps I can use fly screen for the top to maintain air flow. OR use the screen to make the boxes. Hmmmm . . . . .

Hi all,

Just got done replying to many PMs, thank you all! Haven't been here to see the excitement, but will have to go back and read/see. ALL IS GOOD, I HAVE MADE PEACE WITH ALL INVOLVED!! For all of you that have been here over the last few months, I apologize if my "Comb Cop" attitude has gotten out of hand. This problem has made me CRAZY! My intention is to inform newbies and oldies alike as to what we are dealing with here within our already, extremely small gene pool in this country! I will show you pics of my good, bad, and totally UGLY, in hopes that someone will see and learn from it. Did NOT mean to offend anyone, ever! Ok, back to our regularly scheduled program! Marans, Marans, Marans!!!

I bought the supplies to do this! Now, I need to find the time :)

I am new here as are a few others. I have read several hundred pages looking for something and have not come across it. I have searched but admittedly I am poor at internet searches. So, I will just ask my question. We are just getting started with Marans, first a few Birchen then a few splash. About half of the splash have some copper appearing which is not desirable to me. I am wondering since Birchen covers red would I be able to breed my Birchen roo to the Splash hens that show some copper and eliminate that color demonstration? I see a few calling their Splash Copper Splash and a few say Blue Splash. Are these birds bred up in a different manner or is copper in the genetics of all the splash? Thanks for your help in this matter,
T. Michael

Hi T.,
I can't help you because I don't work with either copper or blue.

WOW! That was a lot of reading! My computer needed repairs so was down for two days then the baby got sick so didn't have time to read.....

Now off to read more threads.

Thanks for the nippers Debbi, and Vicki good luck on your hatch! you too Pinkchick!

BTW I have White Leghorns and maybe soon to get the Exchequer Leghorns... I don't find them flighty at all... they will let me pick them up when the others will not. Always at the door to say "whatcha got?" . My only problem with my leghorns... they have all but quit laying.... I thought they were Laying Machines.... My Marans are giving me 4 eggs a day from 6 pullets WTH?

okay what thread do I have to go to in order to view the exchequer leghorns... gotta get me some of those... BTW... I think your birds traded recipes for eggs.
