Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Actually, Jagger, the blue boy, does not have a Carnation, but does have a side sprig. I don't have crayon power so I can't point it out. That other pic must've had shadows involved that made it look that way. He does have a sprig about a 1/2" from the end of the blade though.

LOL! The crayon power is one of my editing programs for my photos....do you a photo editor? (the program in which you can view your photos) If you have one...it should allow you to edit. I use the paint brush icon on mine. :)

We have 5 little chickies...4 from the eggs that were suppose to go to Donna....several more pippers to go!

Pinkchick: My lil pullet's poo does have some red in it, which I assume is blood. A BYCer -Zanna saw my pics on this thread and PMd me to warn of cocci. I hightailed it to New Bolton Center, a horse hospital not far from me where I thought I might be able to get some medicine for her. When I got home with the Amprolium, my lil girl was on her side and I thought, gone. But she did move a little when I lifted her from the brooder. She's already back on her feet and eating and drinking. She hasn't touched the egg, but is eating her chick starter and drinking the water which is laced with the Amprolium. I'm trying not to get my hopes up as I really did think she was already gone and this could just be a final rally. I'm to treat her and all other chicks for 7 days -and they only charged me ONE dollar!

I knew you were just playin with me Debbi. It's all good and it was very funny!

Well I suppose I should actually get something done today and quit watching the 'bator...but the problem with the 'bator is that great big clear acrylic door that allows for great viewing. Geesh! Why did they make them with this particular door?

DH is thrilled that I am on 'bator watch right now....he thinks the more the 'bator ties up my time, the less likely I will get around to taking the clear space in his shop to set up lights and shelving for starting seeds for the veg. gardens...... all I have to say is...................it's pretty cute that he thinks that.

YAY! Seed starting. I'm going to be getting my first round of seeds going this week as well! Btw, Debbi, I am getting your seeds sorted and they will be on their way to you before long!

Good luck, Blarneyeggs!

I hope your little girl recovers.

THis carnation thing is driving me nuts. I did a google search and found a good written description but no photo. THen I found this with a GREAT photo of the carnation comb of the Penesenca , sorry about spelling. For anyone else that may be interested.

If you are looking for more info on carnation combs, there is quite a bit of discussion about it throughout the last 4 months or more on this thread. Just scanning back you will see reference materials and other info people have posted on it.

so far so good on this incubator test run. Its only been two days, but the turners have been running smoothly and every two hours on the dot. I'm thrilled! Curiously tho...I noticed when I was testing the turners when the incubator was getting up to temp, the turners only turned every 4 hours when empty.

The warm temps today have the boys acting up and getting scrappy with each other. So, its lookin like its definitely time for some more moving around and finalizing breeding pens!

Forgive me if you already posted this... are you using the automatic turners that you buy for incubators? Cuz they do only turn once every 4 hours. That is normal.
