Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

thanks, it will be interesting to see what hatches, I think I see a couple rocking but than wonder if it is just wishful thinking :)
I always hate to think I may be "seeing" the rocking out of the side of my eye! Truth is, most of my rockers hatch last, or don't hatch at all. It's the ones I never see any sign of life that seem to hatch first.?????? When my rockers do hatch, they tend to be roos!

Then there are the "nose whistles" that occur, (at least with me), when I am trying to hear new peeps inside the shell! Did I just hear a peep??

I've never seen one rock yet - and I watch. Was a few hatches in before I heard a peep prior to pipping. (When I did hear that peep prior to pipping, I nearly jumped out of my shoes!) I feel SO ripped off ....

(21 out of 30 Silkie eggs candled with growth at Day 7!!! I couldn't be more delighted - especially given how far these poor guys travelled!!!

this is to funny, on one of our last hatches, my DD was laughing at me because I "claimed" to hear a chick peeping but no eggs had pips. Not 5 minutes later she was standing next to the bator and all of a sudden say to me "mom did you hear that a chick just peeped and eggs aren't showing pips yet!"

Oh yes Vicki, I've had MANY of those days! Be glad for them, it means you are accomplishing something!

Hens ~ I came to the conclusion that sometimes I WANT to hear the peeps, and then sometimes I think I need to blow my nose so there aren't the whistles from nose breathing that I could attibute to inside peeps!

Yes! They DO peep within the shell without a pip! That just means they have broken the inside membrane, and it could be quite a few hours to see any pips.

Indeed...me thinks you must be right, although it seems like I still have a million things to do. I'll get there eventually....just a long process around here. Sometimes a bit discouraging with how my back has slowed me down some.

The older you get, the worser it becomes!

Just do what you can do, keep it in persepective, and keep it fun! Wish it would dry out some here so I could have some "fun"!

that's the plan! Its just dried out enough today that I was able to work on stuff without sliding around in the mud too much. Two of my pens to the south are still pretty muddy, but I'm hoping to get them redone as well before too long. They are gonna have to get moved at some point for me to be able to start building the pens I have planned

How's the plans for a home for the wheatens coming along? Gonna have to build a new place from scratch?
