haha...funny...the only reason I ask about the birchen is because cuckoos are not in the too far past for them, so wouldn't surprise me to see it. Ghost barring..i'm not sure about the technical name for it, but that's what I was always told when the pattern would come up that had the look of barring, but not actual barring, similar to what you have there. Sometimes its really faint....so much so that you can only see it in direct light and looks just like little line anomolies on the feather. That probably wasn't too helpful was it? I'm not super creative with words tonight haha.
Its still possible in BBS to get cuckoo or barred sports from time to time. It doesn't happen often, and when it does, I've only really seen it show in blacks, but isn't out of the realm of possibility to have it in a blue I suppose. I'd just watch it develop and see if it sheds out of the feathers after juvie molt if you hold onto them.

The white feather and all its glory while it was still on Lil' Bill this morning.

white feather.......................................

and the stupid thing wasn't even completely white

Have you looked at the possible mothers? Since it is a roo... it might have come from mom.

But maybe I need to hear what ghost barring is first.....

Interesting...
I would think if it was the mother (#96) it would have shown up before. I think it is ghost barring like Vicki says....but it is barred looking, isn't it? I had to ask because I thought I was certainly seeing things.

Here's that bird as a chick and is now 6 weeks- ish.

it honestly wouldn't surprise me to see it shed out at juvie molt where its not very pronounced. In my dad's BBS wyandottes every few years or so...a barred bird will pop up...its just the right mix of genetics for it to pop up...and will be the only one out of all the chicks ever hatched out of those parents. Just one of those things that I don't have the technical answer for. haha
