WoooooooHOooooTTT! C'mon chickies!

Hello!
I really REALLY want some amazing, beautiful Marans chickens. I do not want hatchery chickens, but really top quality, beautiful, amazing birds that can produce beautiful eggs. I adore the egg color, but I actually love the Marans chickens for their amazing looks. I really REALLY love the Wheaten Rooster and hens!
Can anyone direct me to a good, reputable breeder who sells fertilized eggs and/or chicks? I'd like to hatch eggs so my children can witness this little miracle, but I'll take chicks if that is the best quality I can get (or close to).
I'm sure you guys can tell me about several good breeders! I'm a total newbie at all of this, but I take the quality of my other pets seriously and I happen to be a breeder of therapy cockapoos (or spoodle) dogs and sugar gliders... so I'm picky. You know, breeder picky!

Thanks in advance for any help!!! I've seen some amazing websites out there... but it is always so scary to pick someone based on the websites and I've never been to a chicken show... or, I'm not sure how chickens are judged! LOL
These wouldn't be show chickens anyway, but pet birds... just wanting to do my part in supporting good breeding practices!

I have been looking myself also... it is sooooo hard... some days Im attempted to buy hatchery birds but then when I see the big difference I get determined to previal... LOL

why dont you email the breeders and try to talk with them? Granted they want serious people, but you need to do your homework also. I want a good relationship with my buyers/breeders - you never know when you want to go back and buy from them again or sell to them.

Good luck to both of you with finding the ones you want!

Donna - Thanks! That sounds Great to mock up my designs!! (and SAVE money!)

Tracy - she DOES look like Buck Beak!!

Cathie - I'd love to see more pics!

I will try to get some more pictures and take pictures of the plans, they are drawn out on graph paper. I made it simple for me and dh and made each square on the paper one square foot. My birds so far find the space fine. I try to keep my breeding pens to no more than 3 girls to one roo, but have thought about putting a 4th hen in there part time during hatching season to up our numbers a bit. I will have to play with that next fall and winter. I want them happy with plenty of space and no reason to fight among each other. Our plan is for summer to take all the girls and put them in a spare laying pen (was our broody coop but no one has gone broody and I don't plan to let them set eggs during the summer anyhow). Leaving the roos in their pens. I hope they don't get lonely by themselves, lol.

By the weekend, I will be at LEAST 70 birds lighter!!!
