Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Kim, I see faint barring on your Splash boy too. Are these the chicks you got from the Bill line breeder?? Does she have Cuckoos too?

Here are my Easter babies, hatched Friday and Sat. Gosh they are small but very lively. Of course, in the pic they had just pigged out and were schnoozing until I woke them up. I think I saw some baby stink eyes! I'm on a roll today, this pic just took 20 minutes to load!

Such sweet little Easter Babies. Thought of any names for them yet?

I have some pen cleaning and arranging so I may move her since she is not really in a location good for chicks (3 ft off the ground and other chickens.) If she still sticks after I move her I will try to give her some eggs from the bator... not due for another week and see if she will stick it out.... She was still in there this morning. She is letting others use the nest to lay eggs so I am still not sure what is going on.... This is going to be a fun spring.

CHICKS are already hatching... at least 10 were out this morning for the egg hunt... IDK how many are out... I have to wait till morning to see.

I have to tell this. yesterday when I putting eggs in lockdown (a day late) my son came down with the girls and my son was reading the eggs... "Blue Rock... what is that?" My 5 yr old granddaughter said "Blue Plymouth Rock" then got all sheepish... I told her she was right and my son could not believe she knew that, she is going to be a chicken lovin' girl!

Not really, but that chubby little guy (I'd bet anything it's a roo!), reminds me of a male Gorilla! You should see him when he runs when I tap my finger in the feed cup. He runs right over, puffs up, and will look at where I am pointing and start to eat. The first name that came to mind for him was; "Magilla"!

Do you have time?

sweet! I gotta get a wad more seeds started as well. I'll probably reply to your PM later when I get home from work...I'm praying it goes really smoothly and can get out of work a bit early!

Oh...and I think I've thinned my first batch of chicks from 33 to 15 or 16....and some of them are lookers! Since they've been outside since they were 3 weeks old, they are a bit on the wild hooligan side, but I'll see if I can figure out a way to get some shots of them
