Well, sometime early this morning, the two hatched! One bowtied SG, and one white Silkie. I had forgotten she had a Bowtied roo in her second pen with bowtied hens, so I got one of the 25% Silkies...lucky me, huh? That's ok, it's White, and I needed more Whites! There are 3 more SG eggs in the bator, but my gut tells me I'm done. Will let them cook till the end of the day. But I did get one SG!! I'll get some pics when they are up and running later today. The both of them had stiff necks, probably from laying across the tops of the other eggs till morning. I gave them both a dose of B Complex, and the Silkie seems fine now. The SG still has a bit of a crick, so I'll wait till he's up and eating, and give him another round. So tiny, so cute, and that neck is so naked and black!

So happy for you that you got a SG!! You should name him Chance since he had a chance in hell of hatching LOL!

Budda - what color are the feet - are they flesh colored or yellow like they look in the pic?

Is it possible your camera is making the yellow parts look MUCH more yellow?

I've never had bright yellow feet like that on my Marans, but have had some flesh colored toes (which will darken)

I've had yellow leg feathers on the flesh colored part of the feet/shanks, but not on black legs...

The top kid should be blue!

Could the last guy just be a Marans without shank feathering??

Thanks! I was considering Lazerus (sp?), as I really thought the SG eggs were dead! As in, "Lazerus, come forth!", and he did!

I may have to go buy a lottery ticket today...

Martha - you're right about the local honey for allergies, but it doesn't help my eyes at all.

Vicki - I use an allergy eye drop from Target, as well as, rewetting drops many times per day to wash things out.
I also have the keratosis on my eye lids - actually can't wear contacts anymore b/c of it.
SUCKS to wear glasses while working on the farm and with young animals....

Martha - you'll be fine with your piglet!
A dog crate will work - 70lbs is not a really big pig, they are just SOLID!

A stock trailer would be easiest.

Pigs are easy - they get tame and act like a pet dog.
They like attention and like to be petted.

** Important - teach them to come when you call by whistling when you feed***
Makes it MUCH easier to catch them when they're loose!
I love raising up pigs! Teach them to lie down and scratch their tummy, they love that! It's really cute when the boar pig weighs 300lbs.!! I taught my Hamp boar, Guido, to do that. It was a major selling point when a man came to buy a herd boar, and asked me, "is he gentle?" Yup. "Down pig!" Guido flops over on his side and waits for his scratching! "SOLD!!"

They are very intelligent, so teach them to be social and do tricks. Pigs without a job can be destructive, never leave them bored.

Haha good one! I got one more lav silkie the other day. It was 4days late! He is sticky but seems okay. I have to keep doing booty checks on him because he gets his butt stuck up with poop. I think he was really dehydrated. He is drinking like a little fish now and seems to be getting better.

Debbi~ Congrats on the chickies! Are you hatching out some Marans too?

I had a great hatch yesterday....10 out of 12 Marans eggs hatched. 13 Blue Laced Red Wy's and a better than I have been having hatch on my Olive Eggers, 6 out of 12. 3 of the little buggers have the puff-est cheeks...my thinks those 3 will be staying right here with me. I love the puffy cheeks.

No, not this go around, but will be hitting up Randy for some more Wheaten Marans eggs here soon.

TA-DA!!! Hereeeee's Lazerus! Wish I hadn't cut his top knot off, but these guys don't hold still very long, so I get what I get! Bearded and Bowtied!
