I have a brother in FL.... I don't visit much, we just got back as a matter of fact.... picked me up some eggs too!

This place has silver marans and silver based cuckoos.

They have Reg Cuckoo and Silver Cuckoo.... what is the difference? I there a gold based cuckoo and silver based cuckoo? I would have thought if that is so, that the gold based would be the Golden Cuckoo.

Have you seen the color of the eggs?

I think the silver marans are a recessive silver gene and it is like cuckoo but lighter...more white. I don't know the exact genetics other than that. Some of the silvers have a double recessive silver gene as well. I think those are the ones that hatch out yellow. Only one of my silvers hatched out pure yellow except he had the teeniest tiniest dark spot on top of his head lol.

Regular cuckoo is silver based. Golden cuckoo is gold based.

Ok that is what I was thinking.... still wondering about egg color. I looked at the Wyandottes and they are scaring me.... they don't know to NOT breed straight comes in Wyandottes...... I don't even have a breeding pair yet and I know that.

But the marans on first glance looked pretty good.... hum...

Thanks!

The silver marans eggs I bought. Haha I'm really kinda glad that one really light egg didn't hatch. It was clear, several were in fact. It might be better just to order chicks from them, like vicki did. They could use color work but since the birds are so pretty and unusual I had to get some when I had the chance lol. To be fair, our postal service is terrible with eggs.

Slick - every once in a while I get a bantam cochin like that.

2-3 days of Poly-Vi-Sol (no Iron) twice a day fixes them right up!!

Martha - where is the Exotics Sale????

Hey Donna, do you mean the Wyandottes you said have a few hours left on? Or? Just got home from work not long ago, so I'm out of the loop I'm afraid

Hey Debbi...I'm sitting at 27 fuzzy faces so far. Although I can tell for sure a few are gonna head over to the sale barn right away. My uncle must have gotten some of the eggs mixed around (he had warned me it might have happened) and have a couple of wheatens and a few from a project pen. Might keep a couple of the project ones just to see what they do, but I'm only gonna keep the best lookin ones to grow out since I only wanted a few. There is a giant splash that I'm liking lots!

OK so I am new to cuckoos so if you see something that is ODD let me know.

This was the first batch of chicks

My FAVORITE part..... the feathered legs....... 4 of 5 had them. The next 3 did not
