Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Barb, I just see it as I don't have another option. Got to keep moving, and doing something! The last time I went to the Ortho doc, back in '96, he told me I'd be in a wheelchair in 5 years. ???? Oh no, I won't! And no, I'm not! That's part of the reason I got chickens, they definately keep me moving! I have no knees or hip joints any more, and they've been gone for some years now. That doc said, and at the time I was still delivering mail; "I don't know HOW on earth you are standing, let alone doing what you are doing!" Stubborn, Irish pride, my man, just too darn stubborn to quit!

yowza lady! That just hurts reading this! Sadly I too lay in bed not wanting to get out because I know its going to hurt. Stupid back.

Yes, back pain is the worst. That's what usually wakes me up in the morning. If you can take aspirin, and that is all I take, take it before you go to bed! I wake up so much more pain free when I do; and if I forget, I really am regretting it until I can eat and take some. They had put me on Celebrex and Bextra?, and they are hard on the old heart, plus they cost an arm & leg, so I take generic aspirin as needed. Aspirin and making yourself move will help a lot! I also have arthritis in my right shoulder where I dislocated it some years ago, and I tore my Rotator Cuff on my left shoulder some years after that. I think the only thing that doesn't hurt is my hair!

Like the old saying goes, and then some: They can kill me, but they can't eat me. I'm a tough old bird!

hahah....I hear ya! I take ibuprofen cause I aspirin doesn't work too well on me. It does help quite a bit taking it before bed

The only other thing I found that was better than the aspirin, was Alleve. Too bad it turns out, it's the one thing I am allergic to! I would break out in hives the size of your fist, all over my body in the morning! Didn't look too good going to work looking like a beat up Cabbage Patch doll!

Back again with a (blue?) wheaten marans chick that is getting darker by the second!

Where did this comb come from? This ugly thing sprouted up while she has been getting darker too!

Oh I like how my nail polish plays with her colors!

Side shot showing the grey. It isn't the black like her brother the roo.

Here you can see her brother to her left - much darker in color.

I should also note that this chick is the smallest one... there are some very obvious little girls that are a good 50% bigger than this grey one!

So, what do i have here? boy or girl??

Ditto (or triple) this!
I have rheumatoid arthritis and I think you're right - sometimes the only thing that doesn't hurt is my hair!!

I, unfortunately, need more than over the counter stuff to get through my life - and i have trouble sleeping, too...
Makes for a long day!

The farm (and my regular job, which I love) are what keep me getting out of bed each day!!
(but remind me again, when I'm breaking ice and filling waterers at 5am in -10 degree weather

Wow! I'd be out of luck if I was allergic to NSAIDs....
I have similar reactions to sulfa, penicillin, and most recently (during surgery-!-) to Cipro
I break out in hives that then blister and feel like bee stings.....OWWWWW

Too bad they couldn't do that with the anti-abuse meds for druggies - would sure work for me!!
