Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Back again with a (blue?) wheaten marans chick that is getting darker by the second!

Where did this comb come from? This ugly thing sprouted up while she has been getting darker too!

Oh I like how my nail polish plays with her colors!

Side shot showing the grey. It isn't the black like her brother the roo.

Here you can see her brother to her left - much darker in color.

I should also note that this chick is the smallest one... there are some very obvious little girls that are a good 50% bigger than this grey one!

So, what do i have here? boy or girl??

Definitely a roo!

the girls will be the tan/buff color with a bit of black, blue, or splash showing through - most noticeably on the tails

Boys will be blue, black, or splash

Ditto (or triple) this!
I have rheumatoid arthritis and I think you're right - sometimes the only thing that doesn't hurt is my hair!!

I, unfortunately, need more than over the counter stuff to get through my life - and i have trouble sleeping, too...
Makes for a long day!

The farm (and my regular job, which I love) are what keep me getting out of bed each day!!
(but remind me again, when I'm breaking ice and filling waterers at 5am in -10 degree weather

You know, that's funny. I am actually liking the cold weather now more than I ever did. Last winter, when we finally got some snow with an ice covering, my friends and family were all worried sick about me falling going out the feed the chickens. I can say this, I have not lost my sense of balance, and all my friends ended up on their keesters, some more than a few times. I never did. I know my limitations now, as much as I hate them, so all is done in my own time. I don't mind the falling part so much, as I do the getting up part...OY! So, I avoid falls at all cost. Thankfully, by the time the snow comes again, all these fool kittens will be grown, and the sissy Marans don't like to come out in the snow. So, I will actually get to walk without booting someone out of my way and worry about falling in the process!

Wow! I'd be out of luck if I was allergic to NSAIDs....
I have similar reactions to sulfa, penicillin, and most recently (during surgery-!-) to Cipro
I break out in hives that then blister and feel like bee stings.....OWWWWW

Too bad they couldn't do that with the anti-abuse meds for druggies - would sure work for me!!
I'm not allergic to anything else I have ever taken, even other NSAIDS, just Alleve. Must be something in their fillers in the pills that don't get along with me. Too bad too, cause it worked soooo much better than the Celebrex! Celebrex only worked for me about 2 months, then it was like I would have to double the dose to get the same effect, and that wasn't going to happen!

Maybe it's the low humidity??
That's definitely a huge factor for me!

High humidity and the barometric changes are really bad for me....especially right before a storm...

I hear we should all move to Arizona!!
The chicken population would explode!!

hmm - ask your doc if you can try a prescription of Naproxen
it's the same stuff in Aleeve, but comes in different (and greater) doses

maybe the inactive ingredients would be different??
It could be just as simple as the dyes used - a friend of mine can't take the pink Benadryl, but can take the clear version - it's just the red food coloring that's the problem for her.

That would be wonderful for you!

Maybe he can give you a sample to try?? (and some antihist just in case!!)

My sister (also has RA) says Celebrex is the best thing since sliced bread for her - for me, it would be plain old Ibuprofen, but I need it in such high amounts that my liver can't handle it....so I take Etodolac

Yeah, no thanks. I've been through AZ many times, and I lived in the High Desert in CA. I like my greenage!!

I can tell you half a day before a storm is coming. And they thought that was an old wive's tale. Old wives are WISE I say!!
