WIth all my injuries from horses, the ortho said arthritis at the point of injury was a given. Didn't really like to hear that! THen one day I was talking to a friend with rhumatoid arthritis. At the time she was doing weight watchers to loose a few pounds and I was doing Atkins to loose a few more than a few. When she was on WW, she didn't need her once a week meds to manage the pain. When she goes back to her typical AMerican diet , she takes the pills again. Very enlightening observation on her part.
Try reducing the carb intake to a very low level for 2 weeks and see if the pain due to inflammation is reduced or eliminated. Most doctors don't know that the carbs in our diet have an inflammatory effect; and when the body is already fighting joint damage or injury the pain is much greater. Not all carbs are created equal.
If you are willing to give it a try, you need to eliminate a lot of foods we all usually eat, and replace with 3 cups of vegies in a day. Eat the low carb types: green beans, asparagus, lettuces, salads, etc. If someone wants a more pain free life with less meds, I can expand on this diet.
thanks...I appreciate that, he's been on my mind constantly, especially since it was decided yesterday after all the testing, therapy, treatments and worrying, that they are going to take his leg after all. We don't have the surgery date yet, but its hit my dad and mom really hard to realize my dad will not be able to walk anymore since he lost his other leg about 10 years back. This whole process has been so heartbreaking and stressful for all of us this time.
Funny how doctors and lawyers are considered professionals......when they indeed only practice. Practice medicine and practice law.
Sorry.....no offense to any MD's or Lawyers. Just realizing that.
Just FYI Debbi......Sunflower seeds have a natural occuring chemical in them that fight rheumatism and relieve pain. Also, Tumeric acts as an anti-inflammatory.
My accupuncturist suggested that I start using it to see if it made a difference in my pain level and mobility. I was suppose to have a new hip when I turned 26, so far so good and no new hip and I just turned 40.
I take 2 - 400 mg Tumeric capsules a day. One in the morning and one at night......I haven't taken a pain med. for 2 months. It was about a month before I noticed a real difference and one day I just stopped taking the pain meds. 2 months no pain meds. feels pretty darn good and I have been working my bum off in the garden. Last year, I would have been in such pain after a couple hours in the garden that I would have to stop for the remainder of the day. This year....I got out in the morning and DH calls me in when he feels it is getting too late or dark.
Amen on people thinking Diabetes is no big deal. This will be my dad's third amputation, he's blind and has other health issues due to being born with diabetes and yet people will say things like, 'you should take better care of him, or this wouldn't happen if you were better at caring for him.' Well, the reality is, my mom was a critical care nurse for years and is more than qualified to care for him, he is rarely alone as we've worked out a schedule (while daunting sometimes) to make sure he always has someone to care for him. The longest he is ever alone if we can't work out something is like an hour or two and even at that, we have a neighbor that will run over and check on him when we call. And the doctors cannot believe how good he is considering he has had diabetes for 68 years.
Me, too!indeed...I get more horrified by the day reading and doing research on factory produced foods and the additives that people eat everyday without realizing what they really are putting in their bodies. It makes me really grateful I was raised on mostly homegrown veggies, meat, milk, and fruits. This is also my push back to self sufficiency and my desire to raise home grown veggies for others that cannot do so.
I refuse to take pills anymore........MD had me on 3 blood pressure pills a day about 9 years ago, said that I would never be off of them. LOL! Never is not a word used lightly with me. I have been off of them for 8 years now.
I went to see the MD last year for chronic anxiety and I was immediately referred to a "specialist" that outright said to me that she was not there for me to talk to......she was there to prescribe meds only. I couldn't believe my ears when I asked her......"So you mean to tell me that you are not going to counsel as your degree states this is what you PRACTICE and why I was referred to you? You are only going to push a pill?" I got a matter of fact response....."Yes."
I got up and walked out and immediately made an impromtu visit to my doctors office to tell him what I thought of his referral. I also got a new doctor at the same time.
Keeping chickens (Marans) was one of the best things I ever did in my life. I feel that they have seriously contributed to a change in my physical conditions and mental.
Vicki~ It is my experience that Tumeric works. It is not a cure-all but I believe it has certainly helped me. Nothing to lose by trying it.
I use a number of items to help decrease the fly populations. Each attack a different stage of the flies life cycle.
Hanging strips--odorless, just keep your hair out of it! Good for hanging high.
Manitoba traps--google that one Smaller versions are useful.
Predator wasps--very tiny wasps , never a bother, that use fly eggs to lay their eggs. Need to replenish on a monthly basis.
Spiders--web making spiders I prefer over the attack type.
Keep area dry--the eggs thrive in moisture.THis may not be in your control if the flies are originating elsewhere.
Bats eat tons of mosquitoes--we have lost most ofour bats to a whitenose disease. Only 5 a night vs 25 that used to come. Build bat houses.
dragonflies eat tons of mosquitos during the day in open grassy areas.
TOo many flies are a pain.
I had just read about the bags of water, thanks for reminding me, I will try it!I use a number of items to help decrease the fly populations. Each attack a different stage of the flies life cycle.
