Well Happy Father's Day pigeonguy!Hi I am new to this thread but have been reading from begining. omg 36000 post I am on about 4000. It is interesting though.
What I am wondering is if any of you have heard of cheep chicks hatchery in Princeton, IN. I have ordered BCMs from them. That was before I found your thread hope they are good because I did not ask the right questions acording to what has been posted. I just wanted pretty chickens didn't know they were so much work to keep to standard. Oh well sound like fun anyway. Acording to the site they will be Bevs birds at first when I read that it was like ok now its like WOW after reading this thread..
Hope you don't mind me joining in probly won't post much but will be reading.
pinkchick thanx for the happy fathers day
She looks a lot like one of my very first pullets, Beaut. She hatched out of the egg with a huge comb! Big, upright chick, with tree trunk legs! I just collected one of her eggs awhile ago! Glad I didn't have any wagers on that one!haha....that's what I'm starting to think. I was totally sold it was a cockerel, but now I'm starting to wonder. You wouldn't believe how built this bird is. If its a pullet, I'm gonna be doin a happy dance!
hahaha too funny. At this point I'm not setting my heart on it being one over the other. Will just continue watching and see what happens! This is the first one to stump me in quite a while! hahaShe looks a lot like one of my very first pullets, Beaut. She hatched out of the egg with a huge comb! hope he keeps perkin up for ya!Gave old Clyde a dose of vitamin B Complex. I could really tell he is not feeling well by holding him. He took it gingerly, and I left some on the end and side of his beak and he licked it off. I went around doing a few chores and came back to check on him. He was out of the coop, and eating with some of his girls. He then proceeded to drink, and drink, annnnd drink. He looked a bit more perky, so maybe drinking all that water will flush his liver out. Gees, I can't believe I did that to him. Instead of getting 4 drops, he probably got more like 7. At any rate, he should be bug/worm free! Sheesh!
The last one to stump me was one of Wynette's chicks. Comb came in fast, big thick legs, and even had a roo-like tail forming. Took me until they were almost 12 weeks to figure out it was a pullet...hahaha too funny. At this point I'm not setting my heart on it being one over the other. Will just continue watching and see what happens! This is the first one to stump me in quite a while! haha
Ya here that read enough of this to understand what you mean that why I said didn't ask right questions. As far as watching them grow out to see if they are true Bev birds I'll post pics as they grow and leave it to the peeps here to decide. They did look like nice dark eggs anyway and now I want those didn't before just wanted pretty chickens byt now dark eggs to.welcome pigeonguyThe more the merrier here!![]()
I've never heard of the place you mentioned before, but will say, take the claims of being from a certain person or a certain line with a grain of salt until you see how the birds grow out.
haha too funny! I've gotta go through my youngest chicks here soon....probably tuesday and see if I can send some more birdies to the sale. There are quite a few people around there that sell eating eggs, so they usually go for pretty good prices. Just hoping to see the numbers keep dwindling. I didn't have as much time to take photos as i'd have liked today, so will keep trying. I still have quite a number of birds I need to photo and catalog in my photo files so I can watch them grow. I am loving the heft I'm seeing on the birds this year tho!The last one to stump me was one of Wynette's chicks. Comb came in fast, big thick legs, and even had a roo-like tail forming. I agree on the quality. Seen them in a book and that is what made me want them then I could not find them anywhere else. did get pics of the eggs in an email not as dark as some of you gals but dark. You know the old saying wish I new then what i do now. Oh well guess I'll be joining in on breeding for what I want. Kinda know how from raising pigeons not doing that any more am going to use the lofts for coops cleaned and disinfected and waiting my brooder loft/coop is 4 ft x 12 ft and my main coop is 7 ft x 14 ft auto pop door and yellow/orange (parking lights from old truck) inside light all 12 volts. One of these days I'll think of a cost efective way to run those brooder lights on 12 volts. Also building an incubator that will run on 24 volts 24 instead of 12 because I can't find automatic humidity controler that runs on less than 24 volts heat sorce is a 12 volt window defroster fan built in.Well Happy Father's Day pigeonguy!
I had to go check out their site. Too many things they say there I sure don't agree with. They say they are from Bev Davis lines, but unless they purchased them directly from Bev, and this is the first generation of those birds, I wouldn't count on them still being Davis birds. Same with the Jeane line. Their Marans also appear to be clean legged, which means nothing if you just want dark eggs and pretty birds, but is a DQ in the show ring. I also noticed they didn't show a pic of the eggs, that makes me somewhat suspicious. If you have nice dark brown eggs as they state, why not show them?? Anytime you see the word "Hatchery" connected to a name, you are most likely looking at someone pounding out the numbers, and the quality just isn't there. I may be really wrong here, and hope you post some pics of your babies!!
