Sorry - haven't been around - have a momma mare with laminitis and a newly neutered and de-dew clawed puppy who ate his bandage (literally) yesterday..

Anyhow - loving the black boy - what a hunk!

and just had to share with my friends here in the Marans thread since I rarely post anywhere else. I adopted 5 adult African Geese and 2 juvenile females today and 2 of the adults are broody.....one is obviously in the middle of a hatch and the other is still sitting on 5 (was 28 but I pulled lots because they weren't any good) due to hatch any moment.

oh no! That's terrible! I hope both the mare and the puppy fare alright. That's the hard part of loving animals so much, is when they are hurting. I just want to make them all better.

I like the black boy too....they are so fun to watch just lounging around in the heat. They are not perfect, but they are so far from what I started with three years ago, that I can't help but smile when I watch them!

Ok,

I am now totally carnation, sprig, and wry tail FRRRRREEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lessened the load by 4 more birds tonight, one even being a roo! Down to 6 hens/pullets. and 3 roos...in Marans anyway! Need to move some Silkie babies and a whole flock of Partridges.

thanks Debbi! Just trying to focus on getting things done here so I don't overthink stuff too much. Hence the photo session today. Will probably do some more photos tomorrow when I get out of work. Birds really are relaxing.

Vicki, at this point with my limited space, they are all running together. That said, it's only the two brothers left, and Pip. Pip's sole girlfriend left this evening, so it's back to the coffee cans and water jugs for him!

The poor soul, he never has become a real chicken in the last two years... It is still so funny to me that he is the first bird here that catches everyone's eye, and gets the ooohs and aaaahhhs! He is a pretty boy as far as roos go, just not in a BCM sense. As I had trapped the four to go in the coop, and went to retrieve them one by one, Pip got increasingly agitated with me. He did the growly dance for the people, and they both had to laugh. He was upset that his one and only, ugly girlfriend was leaving. He was very quiet after they left. The poor dear. Call me foolish or sentimental, but I do believe they feel the loss, and it showed on his face tonight.

I will try to get more pics, she is really beefy as are all of her sisters, just like Mom. About the white feathers, these pullets are from my first breeding of this pair. No idea if the white feathers will molt out but they had better!!! Not sure what the roo will bring to the table as far as egg colour either, Mom lays a consistent 6. Time will tell........... 1/3 of the chicks hatched out with one middle toe feather and I sold them right away as dark egg layers.






Here she is next to a Welsummer Pullet who is 6 weeks older, probably not much help huh!
