Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

haha - I thought it was just me, sitting in my pen, just enjoying them!!

We're working on a plan for mommy mare, Abby - lots of conversation with the vet today - still trying to get the farrier on board.

Thank GOODNESS for carsickness b/c most of the bandage reappeared on the way to the vets yesterday!!
Puppy, Quinn, now has "thigh high" bandages on back and the largest cone they make, which looks ridiculous on his little 30lb body!

Having trouble uploading....
haha too funny. I can just picture the puppy. Sure hope the plans for the mare work out. And no...you are not alone, I spend a ton of time in the pens or outside of them watching them. That's how I learn who has the best potential...that and handling them to look them over

Are prosthetics out of the question? Or should I say, out of the realm of Medicare? God bless you all; it won't be easy, but you are a great daughter!!!!

he has a prosthetic now for the leg he already lost, but when it comes to needing two, the doctors said that even young people have a hard time with it... Adding that my dad is blind, it really throws a wrench in things as far as prosthetics go because of having a hard time balancing and etc.

Good morning all

I hear nothing but crickets in here this morning, did everyone sleep in??

A whole bunch quieter here this morning too. One more roo gone sure makes a difference! Although Clyde seems to be making up for lost crows this morning.

Prayers are with you and your family. I hope his surgery is uneventful and quick. It is so hard to watch our parents getting older but we all need to be sure and enjoy them while we can. I still miss mine all the time!

X2! My Mom passed back in 1994, and yet there are still times I will think of or see something she would enjoy, and go to reach for the phone. Dad passed in 2009, and I can't believe it's been that long already.

How are you doing Raven? Haven't seen you in awhile!

Mornin' I'm here, just was working on my cull list for the next trips to the sale barn. I'm getting there! Hoping to have all the extra birds and chicks out of here by the week after 4th of july. Then should hopefully be just the last culling of the hatching season left to go after that, where most will be cockerels I kept to feed out and process. I'm already starting to feel a million times better.

Thanks Raven....I sure hope its uneventful too and that he can come home soon...he's been gone a long while.

There you are! Couldn't imagine Ms. Energizer Bunny sleeping in!

Amazing isn't it, what culling out just a few birds can do for your peace of mind?? I feel about 40lbs. lighter this morning!

haha heck no! Been up since 5:30 and gettin ready to leave for work in a few minutes. It is amazing to see the numbers dwindling. I still have my youngest batch of chicks to sort completely and all of my dad's birds, but otherwise I've gone through almost everything else. Just have those 10 other chicks from that batch I started postin pics of yesterday.

I figured that it was the smarter route to cull everything down in the adults and make the first two passes through the chicks I hatched this year before I start building. I've made some adjustments to my plans, and some of it will just be working as I go, but I'm getting there. Haven't had a building day in a couple weeks I think with everything else going on. And the realization that I now have 10 baby kitties that will soon be running around and terrorizing the land and its inhabitants makes me want to get moving as fast as I can. Luckily I have a couple of people that for sure wanted kitties, so I'm hopeful they will go easily!

Ugh, you had to bring up kittens. I've got another cat giving birth right now.

Tried to get the folks that came to get the chickens last night to take one, or 5! Nope, they also have barn cats galore! Wish I could afford to spay these gals, but at $65.00 apiece, and a 60 mile round trip times two, that ain't gonna happen! By the end of summer though, the cat population here usually dwindles on it's own. Hawks, coyotes, coons, cars, and tom cats help to thin the pride. Sad, but it's all in the natural balance of things around here.

Hi Debbie! I am here more days than not, just don't post often.

Last couple of weeks have been crazy. Most of my family came to visit for a week. While that was wonderful in many ways I am glad to have my house back!
