Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Vicki, at this point with my limited space, they are all running together. That said, it's only the two brothers left, and Pip. Pip's sole girlfriend left this evening, so it's back to the coffee cans and water jugs for him!

The poor soul, he never has become a real chicken in the last two years... It is still so funny to me that he is the first bird here that catches everyone's eye, and gets the ooohs and aaaahhhs! He is a pretty boy as far as roos go, just not in a BCM sense. As I had trapped the four to go in the coop, and went to retrieve them one by one, Pip got increasingly agitated with me. He did the growly dance for the people, and they both had to laugh. He was upset that his one and only, ugly girlfriend was leaving. He was very quiet after they left. The poor dear. Call me foolish or sentimental, but I do believe they feel the loss, and it showed on his face tonight.
oh, I believe you. There have been a couple of times in my childhood that a pair would bond and if one of them passed away or was sold, the mate left would go into only what I could describe as depression...and even putting another mate in with them didn't help.

My prayers and best wishes being sent to you and your family......
thank you....I appreciate all the prayers. He will have no legs below the knee after friday, so life will significantly change for him and those of us caring for him. He is also blind, so the hurdles will be greater for him. Its so very hard to watch parents age.

Glad to report tonight, that Clyde has pulled through! This afternoon was the first time I've heard him crow since last Friday! He was also fence fighting with Pip who was standing by the gate. Never thought that would make me happy, but it did!! Just a note to all who may use Eprinex, only put one or two drops on the neck!! It dawned on me that all of the hens, and two other roos had the drops given under the wings or on the back. Clyde was the first one I did, and when a hen spooked off the roost, he flinched, and the whole lot I had in the eye dropper went onto the back of his neck. Granted, it was probably 7 drops, but that is TOO MUCH! Especially loaded in one place. While he did not act sick, he was indeed droopy, and like I said, didn't crow. Whether the B Complex helped or not, I don't know, but it did make him eat and drink more almost instantaneously. Just posting to share my joy, and to pass on what I almost had to learn the hard way. Hope this helps someone else avoid my mistake!!

Yay! So glad!

The pullet was dead when we found them. She was cold and the other chickens were freaking out! The snake had eaten her down to her shoulders so he had been in there for awhile. Glad he didn't find the BITTY BABIES. HUM..... the snake...... was escorted OFF THE PROPERTY

Oh my!!

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family

Quick healing thoughts for your father and here's hoping he has a GREAT PT staff to help him learn how to use his "new" body!

oh no! That's terrible! I hope both the mare and the puppy fare alright. That's the hard part of loving animals so much, is when they are hurting. I just want to make them all better.

I like the black boy too....they are so fun to watch just lounging around in the heat. They are not perfect, but they are so far from what I started with three years ago, that I can't help but smile when I watch them!

haha - I thought it was just me, sitting in my pen, just enjoying them!!

We're working on a plan for mommy mare, Abby - lots of conversation with the vet today - still trying to get the farrier on board.

Thank GOODNESS for carsickness b/c most of the bandage reappeared on the way to the vets yesterday!!
Puppy, Quinn, now has "thigh high" bandages on back and the largest cone they make, which looks ridiculous on his little 30lb body!

Having trouble uploading....

Are prosthetics out of the question? Or should I say, out of the realm of Medicare? God bless you all; it won't be easy, but you are a great daughter!!!!
