Thanks for all the replies!! I have a BCM girl and a friend is getting rid of a Cukoo roo so.... Was just wondering. I have read that the egg from the off spring will be lighter if I go that route.

I would not do that cross. You will get 100% barred chicks with wild colors. The BCM might darken the eggs but still not worth that cross. I am sure you can find a roo for your girls. If not I will bring you one the next time I come to FL

I am sure somebody has 1 extra BCM roo near you.

To get darker eggs in the Cuckoos you would need to use SOLID Marans, either Blue or Black. That is on my slate.... if I can get some chicks with no GOLD leakage AND Feathered legs

I digress......

Arielle, you want more Blue Cuckoos? I can save them for you next week..... I am setting the ones from this week. I have the hen with the MOST gold out of the pen now. Just PM if you do. I am hoping she will come soon to get the cuckoos. But I may set eggs till then.

I got a bunch of Marans from a "breeder" that said they were Blue Coppers. I'll post some pics of them so maybe ya'll can help me identify them - Based on everything I've seen looking all over the internet at everyone's Marans sites and etc, looks like I have 2 Blue roosters, 4 blue hens, 2 blue copper hens and 1 blue splash. But I'd sure like ya'lls opinion. Also, most people tell me that if mine don't have feathered legs then they are not Marans - I'm under the impression that the feathers on the legs is the French line and non feathers is an American version - is that true ?

If they told you they were Coppers even if it is not showing they are COPPER. Feathered legs...... French. Non Feathered legs..... English. The APA SOP calls for Feathered legs. What make a Marans is the EGG COLOR not the leg feathers. But they also need to look like a MARANS in the SOP too.

I see what you mean.... not much copper there.... still I would think there are copper genes in them. Got any of the Splash?

that white one one the left is what I figured was a splash - she came with the bunch. this guy's Blue Copper roosters looked real good

Well if that white is a splash it is a roo. Only roos can have the copper on their wings like that. Got any better pics?

Ugh! I hear ya lady.....work just got over and it was meltdown stress city tonight! This heat is affecting all the compressors and fans for the cooling systems and freezers and the air conditioner crapped out for a while , so I'm just beat from moving things all night! I have no idea how hot it was here, but all I know is that I sweat all night long....blech.
